What Is Human Resources (HR)?

Human resources (HR) is the division of a business that is charged with


finding, screening, recruiting, and training job applicants, as well as
administering employee-benefit programs

Basically, HR plays a key role in helping companies deal with a fast-changing business
environment and a greater demand for quality employees in the 21st century.
Function of HR Department

• New recruitment
• Job safety of everyone in the company
• Employee relation among each other and with the company
• Compensation and benefits to the working employees on the basis of
performance
• Labour law compliance
• Training and development of employees
Introduction of a Company
Orchid Overseas Pvt. Ltd.

Orchid Overseas Pvt. Ltd. which is situated in Udyog Vihar in the industrial area.

They have been manufacturing and exporting fine Garments and Home Furnishings since 1979,

Orchids mainly deals in exporting of readymade garments like dresses for girls, shirts, T-shirts ,
trousers, skirts, tops and even they deal in making cushion covers, blankets, blanket covers,
bedsheets etc.

The firm basically deals in fabrics for example companies like Peter England, Espirit, Next, Cecil
etc.
Mission

The mission is to provide the best quality product using the best available technology to
their valuable customers.

They have incorporated a 7-point Quality Control System to ensure that every piece of cloth
goes through seven different quality control checkpoints during its production period.

Orchid Overseas Capacities

1. Total machines are 740.


2. Capacity approximately 150,000 garments per month.
• Designation Assigned at Internship
Designation: I was working as a HR assistant under the HR manager Mr. Lalu Daniel. I was in the
administration and hiring department.

• My Roles and Responsibilities Assigned as Intern


 My job was to basically check how many employees are present and at what time they come in the
morning.
Handling employee queries
Setting appointments for the manager
Setting interviews for new applicants after consulting the managers.
Preparing the list of problems employees were facing in their respective departments
Making the whole excel sheet of employees and their monthly targets
Challenges Faced

• The task assigned was not relevant to my marketing profile.


• Zoom call scheduled time delay
• Delivery of message to each and every one
• Since the job was under an HR, I always had to ask my manager before taking any step.
• The HR team was way too busy to resolve all the problems of employees
• Calculation of incentives and overtime
• There were too many employees in the company which faced too many different problems
so the query handling part was not quite easy.
• The tasks were usually repetitive so I felt kind of bored till the end of third week.
Solution for Challenges Faced

• Made the new schedule for zoom call


• Took the new initiative I created WhatsApp group
• I think he should have a different team for conflict resolution.
• More assistants should be hired to calculate incentives and overtime rather than
putting it all on one new hire
Learning

The work and activities which I have done during the internship period enhanced my
knowledge and skills.
Skills that I obtained were:

1. Better communication skills


2. Time management
3. Critical thinking
4. Adaptability (Team Building )
5. Awareness about the CSR activities.
Conclusion

As whole, this internship was a useful experience.

I have gained new knowledge, skills and interacted many new people

I learned the different facets of working in a corporate world.


The internship helped me to identify the strengths and weaknesses of mine.

My manager’s behavior inspired me a lot and gave me a vision to see things with new
perspective.
