DIE CAST MACHINE ENGINEERING DIV. P- 1
Introduction
Electricity is invisible basically. When the electricity is carried on wire; a light is on, a motor rotates, a
nichrome wire is warmed. The great energy is well-known, however people doesn’t have much knowledge
about electricity and many people tend to even stay away from it. It is possible to raise operation rates of
electricity with little electrical knowledge. Get out of your mind that electricity is very difficult, and maintain it
positively.
The basics of electricity for die cast machine are described below.

1. Theory of Electricity
1) Current
When dry cell is connected to a bulb with copper wire as right figure, electricity is carried from + to -. Like Dry Cell
n electricity to water, water flows from high to low of the level. Electricity is also carried from high to low of 1.5V

the electric potential. This is called current, and the symbol is A (ampere).

2) Voltage
Difference of the electric potential that occurs between both electrode before connecting + and – with wir
e is called voltage, and the symbol is V (bolt).

3) Resistance
When the electricity is carried from + to -, there is an obstacle which is a bulb on the wire. This obstacle is
called resistance, and the symbol is Ω (ohm). When 1V is applied and 1A is carried, the resistance is 1Ω.

4) Ohm’s Law
A ·········· Ampere V ·········· Volt R ·········· Ohm
A = V/R ·········· Formula 1 V = A × R ·········· Formula 2 R = V/A ·········· Formula 3
These are the basics of electricity.
[Ex. 1] According to formula 1, the current when 100V is applied under 20Ω shall be A = 100/20 = 5 (A).
[Ex. 2] According to formula 2, the voltage when 2A is carried under 30Ω shall be V = 30 × 2 = 60 (V).

P- 2
5) Electric Power and Electric Energy
Use electricity for heater, it turns heat, and for motor, it turns mechanical power. The workload per unit time is ca
lled “electric power”, and the symbol is W (watt).
1W means workload per unit time which 1A of current perform with 1V of voltage.
W = VA ·········· Formula 4 W = V2/R ·········· Formula 5 W = A2R ·········· Formula 6
[Ex. 3] When the voltage is 200V and current is 5A,
it shall be W = 200 × 5 = 1000 (W) = 1(KW) according to formula 4.
When the resistance is 20Ω, and current is 5A,
it shall be W = 52 × 20 = 500 (W) according to formula 6.
Measure a workload with taking as 1 unit that ensured 1W of electric power for 1 hour, and indicate with symbol
of Wh (watt hour). Hose power (HP) is same as electric power. The power raise 1pond of weigh to 33000 feet in
1 minute is 1HP, and it shall be 0.746kW in terms of W value.

6) Earth
The earth is considered that it is a large conductor and the electric potential is 0. When charged object is conne
cted to the earth with electrical wire etc, electricity transfer to earth through the wire. This is called earth and the
symbol is , E etc.
There are following specifications for earth.
6)-1 Earth to iron-table of mechanical tolls, iron-core, and control panel etc.
6)-2 Grounding electrode could be steel frame of the plant, but not earth to gas pipe or air pipe etc.
6)-3 Decide earth wire thickness by main switch or fuse capacity.
3.5mm2 up to 50A, 5.5mm2 up to 100A.
14mm2 up to 200A, 30mm2 up to 400A.
38mm2 up to 400A.

P- 3
7) Series and Parallel
R1 R2 R3
7)-1 Series Connection of Resistance
  R = R1 + R2 + R3 ······· 7 Formula

[EX] If each R1, R2, and R3 is 10Ω, 15Ω, and 30Ω; general Ω shall be
R = 10 + 15 + 30 = 55 (Ω).
R1
7)-2 Parallel Connection

R1 R2 R3 R3

R= = 5 (Ω).

8) Frequency of Direct Current and Alternating Current

Electricity flowing from + to – of battery is constant and no variation. This is called direct current and the symbol is DC.
In contrast, electricity sent to general households or plants is called alternating current, and the symbol is AC.
That is + and – voltage supplied alternately as right figure is indicated.
+ Potential
This wave is called frequency, and the symbol is Hz (hertz).
- Potential
1 Hz

Use 50Hz in eastern Japan and 60Hz in western Japan classifying roughly. As alternating current, 600V and less called low-voltage,
600 ~ 7000V called high-voltage, and higher than that called extra high-voltage. As direct current, 750V and less called low-voltag
e, and higher than that called high-voltage. There are specifications depend on electrical work method etc but it doesn’t act again
st the specification by maintaining machine control circuit.

How To Change Fuse
Fuse Position
1) Change Procedure

(1) Stop hydraulic pump and turn OFF the power.

(2) Loosen screw of (Figure-2)① and pull out an output card.

(3) Conduct through (Figure-3)① to ④ and remove a print substrate.

(4) Remove blowout fuse and change it to new one.

(5) Conduct through (Figure-3)⑤ to ⑨ and assemble card.

(6) Assemble output card on sequencer base module and clamp mounting screw①
tightly.

(7) Make a trial run by turning the power ON to check if there are any abnormal.

(NOTE)
1. Use correct standard of fuse.
2. When fuse meltdown, investigate and solve the problem before change it.
