FUTURISM

It is an artistic movement centred in Italy, that emphasized the


dynamism, speed, energy, and power of the machine and the
vitality, change, and restlessness of modern life.
It was first announced on February20,1909.
 An Italian poet and editor Filippo Tommaso Marinetti published a Paris newspaper
Le Figaro and coined the word futurism.
 It reflect his goal of discarding the art of the past and celebrating change,
originally, and innovation of culture and society.
 He glorified the new technology of Automobile and the beauty of its speed, power,
and movement.
 He also called for the destruction of cultural institutions such as museums and
libraries.
 This manifesto’s aggressive tone was purposely intended to inspire public anger and
arouse controversy.

CARLO CARRA (BORN-
FEBRUARY 11, 1881)
• One of the most influential Italian painters of first half of the 20th Centaury.
• He is best known for his still life's in the style of Metaphysical painting.
• He was involved in movements- Futurism and Metaphysical painting.
• Famous works – “Lot’s Daughter”
“Patriotic Celebration, Free Word Painting”
“The Funeral od the Anarchist Galli”
• Carra’s most famous painting The Funeral of the Anarchist Galli(1911) embodies
futurists ideals with its portrayal of dynamic action, power, and violence.

KAZYS BINKIS (BORN
NOVEMBER 4, 1893)

• He led the “Four Winds” literary movement, which introduced Futurism


into Lithuania.
• He had written Futuristic poetry, Humorous poetries, newspaper articles,
children’s books and also wrote 2 successful plays “The Younger
Generation:1938” and “General Rehearsal”.
GIACOMO BALLA (BORN JULY
24, 1871)
• Italian artists and founding member of the Futurist movement in painting.
• Balla, Boccioni, and Severini gradually came under the influence of the Milanese
poet Filippo Marinetti, who in 1909 launched the literary movement he called
Futurism.
• Famous works- Dynamism of a Dog on a Leash, etc.
GIOVANNI PAPINI (BORN
JANUAUARY 9,1881)

• He was the most outspoken and controversial Italian literary figures of the
early and mid-20th century.
• He was a journalists, critic, poet, and novelist.
• Initially he was an editor and writer, then as a leader of Italian Futurism
and finally as a spokesman for Roman Catholic Religious belief.
• Notable works- “Pane e vino”, “II crepuscolo dei filosofi”, “A Man-
Finished” and “The Story of Christ”.
