 Information, education and
communication (IEC) is a
combination of multiple
strategies that enable
individuals, families,
groups, organisations and
communities to play active
roles in achieving,
protecting and sustaining
their own health.

Communication (IEC)

IEC is an approach, which attempts to change or


reinforce a set of behaviours in a "target audience"
regarding a specific problem in a predefined period of
time
Behaviour Change Communication (BCC)

BCC is an interactive process for developing


messages and approaches using a mix of
communication channels in order to
encourage and sustain positive and
appropriate behaviours.
Steps in communication
activities
Situation analysis:
Understand demographic, socio- cultural,
epidemiological, and behavioural aspects of the
target population for communication initiative

Pretest:
To know the prepared materials convey the
accurate meaning

Selection of channels:
Penetration and popularity of the channels
should be important
