BOWLING

• Bowling is a target sport and

recreational activity in which a
player rolls or throws a bowling
ball toward pins or another
target.
OBJECTIVE OF BOWLING
• The objective in bowling is to
keep the bowling ball on the
lane for the entire length and
hit as many pins as possible.
HISTORY OF BOWLING
You know what sport predates
the Roman Empire, Jesus Christ, and
even the first Olympic Games held
in 776 BCE? Bowling!
HISTORY OF BOWLING
• THE EARLIEST FORMS OF BOWLING CAN BE DATED
BACK TO ANCIENT EGYPT AND THE ROMAN EMPIRE
ABOUT 2,000 YEARS AGO.
• 1930s, a British anthropologist named Sir Flinders
Petrie discovered a primitive bowling set in the grave
of a child. So, what's interesting about that? The
grave dated back nearly 5000 years, to
the height of the ancient Egyptian
empire.
HISTORY OF BOWLING
• THE GAME ENTAILED TOSSING STONE
OBJECTS AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE TO
OTHER STONE OBJECTS.
• ORIGINALLY THE GAME USED NINE
PINS AND INVOLVED LOTS OF
GAMBLING AND WAS
BANNED.
HISTORY OF BOWLING
• AN OUTDOOR GAME FOR MOST OF ITS HISTORY,
INDOOR BOWLING BECAME POPULAR IN THE
MID-NIENTEENTH CENTURY AFTER THE
INTRODUCTION OF INDOOR LANES IN NEW YORK
IN 1840.

HISTORY OF BOWLING
Today, the sport of bowling is enjoyed by
95 million people in more than 90 countries
worldwide. Under the auspices of the
Federation Nationale des Quilleurs (FIQ),
bowling's top athletes regularly compete in
Olympic Zone and worldwide

2. USE BOTH HANDS TO HOLD THE BALL
•Rest the ball in your dominant hand, but use
the support of your free hand to cradle the ball
from underneath as you move towards the lane.
This allows you to steady the ball and
prevents you causing strain to your
bowling hand.

3. GRIP THE BALL

LIGHTLY

3. GRIP THE BALL LIGHTLY
•If your grip is too tight, you will not be
able to release the ball smoothly, and
this will negatively impact your
aim. The ball should slide
off your fingers with ease.

RELEASING THE GRIP
1. POSITIONYOUR FINGERS COMFORTABLY
•Place your thumb in the thumb hole and
remember that whatever grip you
choose, it should go to the knuckle.
Your thumb should grip the
sides of the thumb hole
lightly,lighter in fact than the
finger holes.
RELEASING THE GRIP
2. LOOSEN YOUR GRIP
•A loose grip will allow your fingers to
exit the ball smoothly, and this will
improve your aim.
•Before releasing the ball, practice your
swing a few times to ensure
that your gip feels
comfortable and
consistent.
RELEASING THE GRIP
3. RELEASE THE BALL WITH A PUSH-AWAY MOTION
•Move your hands and left foot forward at the
same time, bringing the ball up to chest height.
Then swing the ball backward, and use this
momentum to create a forward swing.
•Release your thumb from the thumb hole just
before completing your forward swing. At the
moment your thumb releases the
ball, it should be pointing towards
the bowling pins.

How to Play?
• Bowling is an individual sport, one can play
on their own or against others.
• Play begins with a person throwing
“bowling” the ball down a lane.
• The game consists of 10 frames, the bowler
has two chances to knock down
the pins in each frame.
How to Play?
• When keeping score, bonus points are
awarded; the next two balls (for a
strike) or one ball (for a spare).
• If the bowler knocks down all pins in
the 10th frame with two rolls
(spare), bowler gets one more
roll.
How to Play?
• A perfect game is 12 strikes
maximum score of 300 points.
• The player with the highest score
after 10 frames is the
winner.
HOW TO USE BOWLING RAMP?
• The bowler can use bowling ramp
easily. the placement of the ramp is
in front of the lane. right placement
of it increases the chances of
a better score of bowling

RULES
• A game of bowling consists of ten frames.
In each frame, the bowler will have two
chances to knock down as many pins as
possible with their bowling ball. In games
with more than one bowler, as is common,
every bowler will take their
frame in a predetermined order
before the next frame begins.
RULES
RULES
• Bonus points are awarded for both
of these, depending on what is
scored in the next 2 balls (for a
strike) or 1 ball (for a spare).
RULES
• If the bowler knocks down all 10 pins
in the tenth frame, the bowler is
allowed to throw 3 balls for that
frame. This allows for a potential of 12
strikes in a single game, and a
maximum score of 300
points, a perfect game.
FOUL
• A foul occurs when a part of the player’s body
encroaches or goes beyond the foul line and touches
any part of the lane, equipment or building during or
after a delivery.
SCORING A FOUL
• When you foul, your delivery counts, but
you don’t get credit for any pins knocked
down on that delivery. The rack will be
reset and you’ll throw your next ball
(unless you fouled on your
second ball, in which case
your turn is over).
THE FOUL LINE
THE FOUL LINE
• If any foreign objects (pens, coins,
jewelry, etc.) fall from your body or
clothing and land past the foul line, it
does not count as a foul. You should
request permission to
cross the foul line to get
those items.
SCORING
STRIKE (X)
• Knocking down all ten pins on your first
ball is called a strike, denoted by an X on
the score sheet.
 A strike is worth 10, plus the
value of your next two rolls.

OPEN FRAME
• If, after two shots, at least one pin is still
standing, it’s called an open frame.
Whereas open frames are taken at face
value, strikes and spares can be worth
more—but not less—than face value.
OPEN FRAME
HOW TO SCORE AN OPEN FRAME
• If you don't get a strike or a spare in a
frame, your score is the total number
of pins you knock down. If you knock
down five pins on your first ball and
two on your second, your
score for that frame is 7.

in a frame, your score is the total
number of pins you knock down.

Adding up your Score

of each individual frame. If you treat each
frame individually, it's much easier to
comprehend the scoring system.

HANDICAP
• A handicap system will be used to determine team wins and losses
for standings and playoff seeding. Each individual player's
handicap will be used to calculate a team total for the week.
Handicaps adjust from week to week as more games are added to
a player's average. The handicap is calculated by subtracting the
player's average from 200 and then taking 80% of that total. This
handicap is added to each player's "scratch" (actual) score to
establish the totals. The handicap total is calculated after all
games for the week are played and then the scores are adjusted
to reflect the new total and then wins/losses are determined
for the standings.
