What is 3G ?

3G refers to the next generation of wireless

communications technology.
3 G network is one of the leading technologies in today’s
wireless technology. If we describe 3g is nothing but fast
stream and high bandwidth.
3G is a set of protocols, a technology which was originally
developed for the internet, it also uses techniques such as
Code Division Multiple Access (originally developed by
the military) to allow efficient, fast, and secure
communications

AIM OF 3G TECHNOLOGY
The aim of 3G (third generation) is to deliver the
capability of much higher data rates to mobile
communications devices over a large geographical
area.
To allow efficient, fast, and secure communications
over the wireless medium.
EVOLUTON FROM 2G TO 3G
Radio signal of 1G networks was analog while 2G
networks have digital signal.
2G networks were built mainly for voice data and
slow transmission. Due to rapid changes in user
expectation, they do not meet today's wireless needs.
2.5G" (and even 2.75G) provide some functionality
like 3G networks, but without the full transition to 3G
network.
Mobile telecommunications networks are being
upgraded to use 3G technologies from 1999 to 2010
IMPLEMENTATION & HISTORY
The first commercial launch of 3G is done in Japan on
October 1, 2001.
In December 2007, 190 3G networks were operating in
40 countries.
It was first implemented on CDMA phones.
Verizon(wireless phone) is the first one to use
this technology.
Future of 3G Technology:

 3G packet based networks will allow users to be on

line all the time.

The capabilities of wireless networks in terms of

bandwidth must still, however, be improved upon .
ADVANTAGES
With 3G you can do everything you do now, but you
can do it much better, a lot faster and from almost
anywhere!
Some of the main advantages are that 3G supports
multimedia data applications such as video, email,
SMS, games etc.
It will provide data speeds of up to 2 Mbps, making
portable videophones a reality.
SECURITY
3G networks offer a greater degree of security than 2G
predecessors.

The 3G network provides end to end security .

Conclusion
3G is an exciting new technology that is being
incorporated into mobile devices across the globe.
Users are now able to make person-to-person calls,
download data and do a variety of other tasks they
never imagined possible all via their 3G cell phones.
