REGULAR AND IRREGULAR VERBS

– Subject-verb agreement rules remain consistent whether verbs are regular or

irregular. Regular and irregular verbs have no much difference at all. A singular
subject noun or a pronoun takes the singular form of the verb, and a plural noun or
pronoun takes the plural form of the verb.
– In present tense, singular verb is formed by adding –s or –es to the base form; a
plural; verb just follows the base form
– In past tense, singular and plural and nouns or pronouns use the same past form of
the verb, usually adding –ed or –d to the base form of regular verbs.
– The tricky part comes with irregular verbs where the form is completely different (like
bring- brought, fly- flew)
– in perfect tenses, use has/have plus the participle form of the verb for present
perfect tense, and had plus the participle form of the verb for the past perfect tense.

– Farley assumes the exam to be really difficult. (singular, present)

– I like this park more than the mall. (singular, present)
– Those three children remained silent during the whole run of play. (plural,
past)
– Dianne and her friends have gone to the art fair. (plural, present perfect)
– Floy has written his fine competition essay in just an hour.
