The Archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina

The Archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa CatalinaIt is located west of the Caribbean Sea (Atlantic Ocean)
in Central America, 775 km, It is made up of two municipalities: San Andrés y Providencia and Santa Catalina Islas. It
is the only insular department of Colombia and in addition to San Andrés, the country's largest island, it is made up of
other islands, cays and islets on the volcanic platform in the west of the Antillean Sea. The relief of San Andrés is made
up of a longitudinal mountain range from north to south with coconut forests whose maximum elevation is "La Loma"
of 85 m. Providencia is made up of hills with elevations up to 350 m ("Alto Pick") above sea level. Santa Catalina,
separated from the previous one by a 150 m wide channel, is relatively broken and its maximum height is 133 meters
above sea level.
The walled city of Cartagena de Indias
Cartagena was known to many as a city that was the target of many pirates, especially
the English and French, who wanted to loot the city. In fact, this is one of the main
reasons why the Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas and the Wall were built. Even very
cruel strategies were acquired to keep the city protected. On a tour of the port, they told
us that the lepers were thrown into the waters of the sea near the port, because in this
way they drew the attention of the sharks that ate the sick and thus was a certain death
for the crew of the pirate ships if your ship was wrecked, even if it was a little close.
Many of them were unable to dock ashore because the tide was very low.

It can be considered that Cartagena is a city that could be defended, although we must
not forget the strong Spanish presence that endowed the inhabitants with a lot of
knowledge and weapons for it, since it was they who built the castle.
Salto Angel Waterfall
The Kerepakupai Vená is one of the major tourist attractions in Venezuela, but even today, a trip to the
falls is not a simple matter, because the area is isolated by the thick jungle and the tepuis make air
navigation dangerous. . The region can be reached by plane flight from Caracas or Ciudad Bolívar, to
reach a camp in Canaima. Other tourists prefer to reach the falls by more natural means, crossing the
jungle by waterways, until they reach the base of the jump.

The "Angel Falls" is also erroneously known as Churún-Merú (when the correct thing is Kerepakupai
Merú, the river that gives rise to the jump and ramification of the Churún River), a name that actually
corresponds to another waterfall that is located in the same Tepuy, about 400 m high.
Santa Cruz de Mompox
This mysterious place, located in the department of Bolívar, transports tourists to
another dimension due to the structure of its streets that break the Spanish style and its
high-rise arched houses, designed to combat the heat. At the time of the conquest,
Mompox was an important commercial connection point between Cartagena and the
interior of the country.

Its beautiful architecture makes Mompox the venue for important Caribbean cultural
events such as the Independent Film Festival, the Jazz Festival and the Ciudad de
Mompox Music Festival. The municipality is also known for religious tourism due to
the massive ceremonies held in commemoration of Holy Week.
CORALES DEL ROSARIO AND SAN BERNARDO
The Protected Area is located on the Caribbean coast of Colombia, it includes a large marine area off the coast of the
departments of Bolívar and Sucre, occupying an area of approximately 120,000 hectares in the jurisdiction of the
Tourist and Cultural District (DT and C. ) of Cartagena de Indias. The Park begins 23 km south of the city of
Cartagena de Indias in the Punta Gigante sector in the town of Barú. And in the south, it is located in the lower
Sotavento in the San Bernardo Archipelago sector, 35 km northeast of the city of Santiago de Tolú.
The Los Corales del Rosario and San Bernardo National Natural Park constitutes a valuable underwater set of
ecosystems of the highest productivity and biodiversity, which form the most extensive coral platform in the
Colombian continental Caribbean (about 420 km2). There are the most important continental reef formations in the
country, unique samples of coastal mangrove forests, extensive sea grasses that border the islands, a diversity of
invertebrates and a multitude of multicolored reef fish.
