INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES (ILOS)

• Define the computer error;

• Determine the common hardware and software errors;
• Write the suggested resolutions for those errors;
• Differentiate hardware and software errors;
• Apply the suggested resolution on a system unit with a specific error;
• Determine if the error is hardware or software and
• Apply the suggested resolutions on the real-life situation or industry.
ERROR

• A state wherein something is not working correctly based on its usage.

COMPUTER ERROR

• A state wherein the system unit is not working properly.

• There are (2) types of computer error:
• hardware error and software error.
HARDWARE ERRORS

• A Hardware error is a failure or malfunction of a hardware piece in a system unit. There

types of errors are seen in the tangible part of the computer system.
MOTHERBOARD ERRORS

• Error: Peripheral not recognize on a certain Port/s.

• Description: Known Good peripherals are working on other Port/s, or system unit.
• Solution: Motherboard Replacement

• Error: No power-on self-test (POST)

• Description: The system doesn’t Power On Self-Test. If the other hardware are working
on other Motherboards, it is a problem in the motherboard ports.
• Solution: Motherboard Replacement

• Error: No power
• Description: The system doesn’t turn on when power Button is pressed but PSU is
confirmed working.
• Solution: Check the jumpers connected from the Motherboard to Power Button (I/O)
CONT.

• Error: No Audio (Internally)

• Description: This is caused by the internal speaker not properly connected to the
motherboard.
• Solution: Reseat the internal speaker and properly Seat it in the motherboard
VIDEO CARD ERRORS

• Error: Video Card Not Detected

• Description: Video Card is not detected in the Device manager
• Solution: Reseat the card and clean the gold teeth
CONT.

• Error: No Display
• Description: Monitor has no display when connected to the video card.
• Solution: Check the ports and cable in use.
MICROPROCESSOR ERRORS

• Error: Overheating
• Description: System gets too hot and frequent reboots. The processors gets least
ventilation
• Solution: Reapply thermal paste and clean the fan.
CONT.

• Error: Burning Smell

• Description: A clear indication that the power supply Malfunctioning.
• Solution: Replace Power Supply Unit (PSU)
POWER SUPPLY UNIT ERRORS

• Error: Frequent Shut Offs

• Description: System doesn’t restart but completely turns off. This is caused by low
voltage output of the power supply
• Solution: Remove other components in the system unit Or replace the PSU
HARD DISK DRIVE ERRORS

• A hard drive is a crucial part of the system unit. This is where all the files your use in the
system are being stored.
CONT.

• Error: No Bootable Device

• Description: The hard disk is not detected
• Solution: Check the data and power cable of the hard disk. Ensure that is properly
connected

• Error: Bad Sector

• Description: This error disables a certain part in the Hard drive which make it unusable.
• Solution: Format the hard drive and install a Operating system.

• Error: Slow boot Up

• Description: The system may be sluggish when you turn it on and takes long time to boot
up.
• Solution: Check the health of the hard drive by doing Chkdsk /F in command prompt.
CONT.

• Error: Download Takes Too long

• Description: Hard disk drive is starting to get full if not already.
• Solution: Ensure that there is enough free space in the hard drive.
CONT.

• Error: Corrupted Data

• Description: When you open the application, it doesn’t Respond. The hard drive is
experience gradual failure.
• Solution: Scan the hard drive in command prompt using chkdsk to fix or consider
replacing the hard drive it continuously fail.

• Error: Unwanted Sound

• Description: Whirring or screeching noise coming from the hard drive. Can also be
caused of disappearing files.
• Solution: Hard disk drives replacement

• Error: System Freezing

• Description: The system does unwanted freezing while in use
• Solution: Hard drive optimization
MONITOR ERRORS

• Error: No Display /LED Light Off

• Description: The monitor is not getting any power Source.
• Solution: Check the power cable of the monitor and ensure. It is properly connected.
CONT.

• Error: No Display / LED light Orange

• Description: The monitor has power but no display and LED is in color orange state.
• Solution: Check the video/display cable and ensure it is properly connected.
CONT.

• Error: Discoloration, Distortion, and Flickering Screen.

• Description:
• Monitor is displaying inaccurate colors
• The monitor display distorted images.
• Sudden swift blank screen of the Monitor then goes back to normal screen

• Solution: Check the OSD menu and reset the setting to default
CONT.

• Error: Dead Pixel and burn in

• Description:
• Small dark or bright dots in screen.
• The image shown in the screen gets stuck for a certain period of time

• Solution: Monitor Replacement

MEMORY RAM ERRORS

• Error: Slow Performance

• Description: The system boots up properly but performance is degrading throughout the
usage
• Solution: Check the power cable of the monitor and ensure it is properly connected

• Error: Missing RAM

• Description: The size of RAM seating in the motherboard is more than what you are
seeing in properties
• Solution: Reseat the memory module/s.
OTHER PERIPHERALS ERRORS

• Error: Keyboard not detected

• Description: Keyboard not recognize by the system and has no sign of power.
• Solution: Reseat the keyboard
CONT.

• Error: Mouse is not detected

• Description: Mouse is not recognize by the system and has no signs of power
• Solution: Reseat the mouse
CONT.

• Error: No Audio (Speakers)

• Description: The system doesn’t turn on when power button is pressed buy PSU is
confirmed working
• Solution: Check the audio jack or the power cable of the speakers
CONT.

• Error: Flash Disk not detected

• Description: USB tried other system but still not recognize
• Solution: Flash Disk Replacement
COMMON SOFTWARE ERRORS

• Error: System Performance is Sluggish (No Virus/ Malware)

• Description: Surely determined that the system has not virus or malware. The issue is
caused by too many start ups
• Solution: Go start up items and disable unnecessary applications that eats up memory

• Error: Internet is Slow

• Description: Internet is Slow
• Solution: Check for the applications that are constantly using the internet (mostly auto-
updates) and turn it off

• Error: Pop-up Ads

• Description: Whilst browsing the internet, you are getting o many pop ups, the system is
possibly infected by virus o malware.
• Solution: Clean the system by any of the ff:
• Clean installation of operating system.
• Scan with antivirus
• Install an ad blocker
CONT.

• Error: Attachments Won’t Open

• Description: Attachment from email or internet itself won’t open when download
• Solution: Check the application used and install/ updates to the most update one.
CONT.

• Error: Blue screen of Death (BSOD)

• Description: You have already isolated that the hardware is fine But still getting a
bluescreen error. This is mainly caused by corrupted operating system
• Solution: Reinstallation of Operating System.
CONT.

• Error: Missing .dll files

• Description: Can’t get to stat applications and getting an application error with missing
files/.dll
• Solution: Reinstallation of the corrupted app will solve the issue.

• Error: Application Won’t Install

• Description: Application Won’t install even you have enough space in the hard drive.
• Solution: Re download the install you are using.
CONT.

• Error: Autorun.inf
• Description: This is a type of malware where your files go hidden and creates a shortcut
of your drive.
• Solution: To remove autorun.inf, scan it with antivirus or format the system.
