What is RedTacton?
 HAN – Human Area Network – the last meter
 Transmits data utilizing body’s electric field
The body becomes its own Ethernet cable
 High speed – up to 10 mbps
 Very secure
 Uses a transmitter
and a receiver, or
a transceiver,
which provides
both functions
How it works

Optical
properties of
electro-optic
crystal –
varies based
on electric Data received using photonic electric field sensor combined
field with electro-optic crystal and laser light
Red tacton transceiver
Step by Step

 Transmitting transceiver creates a

change in the field
 Receiving transceiver recognizes the
change in the electric field
 Electro-optical crystal uses laser to
convert and read the signal
Why red tacton?
 Blue tooth ,infrared used for data transmission .
 But these short range devices have certain
problems .
 Throughput is reduced.
 Tight directionality of beams between terminals
require for the system to be effective.
 Then ultimate solution to all these constraints of
conventional technologies is use intrabody
communication.
What does it do

 When using red tacton, the human body

effectively becomes Ethernet cable ,so the body
can use electrical field generated by human body.
 For example if the person wearing a red tacton
device sat at the table with red tacton capabilities
connected to the internet,laptop would
immediately connected to the internet.
 It seems to be similar to the wireless
communication but there is a physical connection
I.e human
Features
of redtacton
Touch
 using Red Tacton,
communication starts when
terminals carried by the user or
embedded in devices are linked
in various combinations through
physical contact
BROADBAND&
INTERACTIVE
 Duplex communication
can achieve upto 10
mbps
 Transmission speed
does not deteriorate
even in congested area
where many people
communicated at same
time.
ANY MEDIA
Application area
• One to one services
1. information recorded in the RedTacton device is
sent to the touched objects.
2. The appropriate service is provided based on
the attribute information received by the
RedTacton receiver.
• Elimination of human errors
1. RedTacton devices embedded medicine bottles
transmit information on the medicines' attributes
2. Avoidance of risk at construction sites .
Device personalization
o Personalization of mobile
phone

 Your own phone number is
allocated and billing
commences.
 Automatic importing of
personal address book and
                                         call history
o Personalization of automobiles
 The seat position adjust to
match the driver by sitting in
the car.
 The driver's home is set
 New behaviors patterns
 Various conductors and dielectrics can
be used as RedTacton communication
media, and this has the potential to
create new behavior patterns.
 A network connection is initiated simply
by placing a lap-top on the table
 Security application
 User verification and unlocking with just a
touch
 Carrying a mobile RedTacton-capable device
in one's pocket, ID is verified and the door
unlocked when the user holds the doorknob
normally.
 Automated car door lock/unlock just by
touching the handle; unlocking a bicycle just
by sitting on it.
Advantages of red tacton?
 More secure than bluetooth
 Superior that infrared technology.
 Superior than wi-fi.
 Red Tacton does not require the electrode to be
in direct contact with the the skin
 Each communication occurs in separate channels
 Data loss during transfer is less
 Use of minimum amount of power
 Security is more.
Security
 Requires physical contact
Must be wearing the transceiver and touching something else
with a transceiver
 Less potential for wireless interference
and between other RedTacton devices
 Allows for encryption and authentication
 Programmable
You decide what to share with whom and what devices you
communicate with
Challenges

 The obvious barrier to entry is cost and

time to develop HAN technology.
 Widespread marketing campaigns will
need to develop the HAN technology.
 Not useful unless many people adopt it.
