Instruments used in examination of
nose
LICHTWITZ TROCAR AND CANNULA
LICHTWITZ TROCAR AND CANNULA
Lichtwitz (antrum-puncture) Trocar
and Canula, is used:

• in nasal sinus surgery

• to confirm the presence of pus in
the maxillary sinus
• for cytological examination of
antral wash out fluid
• for lavage of the maxillary sinus
• introduction of medication
• indwelling polythene tube into the
sinus

Antral lavage is a largely obsolete surgical procedure in
which a cannula is inserted into the maxillary sinus via
the inferior meatus to allow irrigation and drainage of the
sinus.[1] It is also called proof puncture, as the presence
of an infection can be proven during the procedure. Upon
presence of infection, it can be considered as therapeutic
puncture.[2] Often, multiple repeated lavages are
subsequently required to allow for full washout of
infection.
NASAL SNARE (KRAUSE’S)

PARTS:

-Slender Cannula Promoting

Efficient Surgical Access.

-Sliding Ring Handle for

Tightening the Snare Wire.

-Ergonomic Finger Rings

Ensuring Maximum Control.

KILLIAN'S LONG BLADED NASAL SPECULUM
PARTS:
•IS AVAILABLE WITH
BLADES OF DIFFERENT
SIZES

•THE DISTANCE BETWEEN

THE BLADES CAN BE
ADJUSTED AND FIXED
WITH A SCREW

Where is it used- https://youtu.be/3cT4e8iSTRs

Uses :

-In all nasal septal surgeries, the killian's long bladed self retaining nasal
speculum is used to visualize the interior of the nose. Its self retaining
nature frees up both the hands for surgery.

-used in SMR or septoplasty operation to keep mucoperiosteal flaps away.

-Used as diagnosed propose in anterior rhinoscopy .

- Therapeutic- Removal of foreign bodies, antral wash, nasal packing,

surgical procedures inside the nose like polypectomy,SMR,
septoplasty,etc.

ASCH’S SEPTUM FORCEPS
PARTS:
-Long grip handles for
controlled movements.

-Concave necks
prevents trauma to
mucosal tissues.

-Blunt blades ideal for

septal remodeling
Uses :

•Asch Septum Forceps assists doctors to straighten

septal tissues and realign the nasal septum during
nasal reconstruction procedures.

•Ash forceps is used to straighten a fractured /

buckled nasal septum. The tip of the Ash forceps is
slightly angled upwards. It is slide between the
septum (on either side) and the buckled septum is
lifted up holding the forceps in a double handed
fashion (one hand above the other).

WALSAM’S FORCEPS
PARTS:

-straight blades

-rubber tube
containg one tip

-no gap between

two blades

How to hold? -https://youtu.be/m32z7S3gcSw

Uses :

The Walsham forceps is used for closed reduction of

fracture nasal bones.

One lip of the forceps is guarded with a rubber sleeve in

order to prevent injury to skin overlying the nasal bone.

During the process of reduction the forceps is inserted into

the nasal cavity in such a way that its guarded lip is outside
and its other lip lies underneath the nasal bone.

The fractured nasal bone is dis impacted and re positioned.

procedures.
•The small profile allows the surgeon to grab
delicate soft tissue, drainage tubes, or remove
excess material.
• Serrated tips allow for better traction when in
use.
•A versitile forcep used in a variety of ENT
procedures. Ideal for nasal packing, ear tubes
and grabbing soft, delicate tissue.
HARTMAN'S DRESSING FORCEPS
