Walking On Water Group
Introduction
• Based on the archimedes principles,when a stationary
body is completely submerged in a fluid, or floating so
that it is only partially submerged, the resultant fluid
force acting on the body is called the buoyant force.
where is the specific weight of the fluid and is the
volume of the body. The direction of the buoyant force,
which is the force of the fluid on the body, is opposite to
that shown on the free-body diagram. Therefore, the
buoyant force has a magnitude equal to the weight
• A body is said to be in a stable equilibrium position if,
when displaced, it returns to its equilibrium position.
Conversely, it is in an unstable equilibrium position if,
when displaced (even slightly), it moves to a new
equilibrium position. Stability considerations are
particularly important for submerged or floating bodies
since the centers of buoyancy and gravity do not
necessarily coincide. A small rotation can result in
either a restoring or overturning couple. For floating
bodies the stability problem is more complicated, since
as the body rotates the location of the center of
buoyancy (which passes through the centroid of the
displaced volume) may change.

Design Concept
• The shoes will float on the water. Balsa wood is one
of the lightest varieties of wood available. The
density of this wood is 110-140 kg/m3.
• Design of the shoes. The design concept need to to
comfortable, easy to handle, in a stable condition,
compact size and low cost
• Same as its project name this project will only
considered the design that will act as a shoes not
any product that will float only on water.
• This study or shoes design only suitable for calm
water surface. Which means it will only work best
at the lake or pond without hugh wave such as on
the sea.

Calculation
There are some assumption will be made to check either the shoes will
be floating or not. The assumption that will be made is about its
dimension by make its shape into simple shape.
Calculation
V4= 1/2 x 0.09 x 0.14 x 0.3
= 0.00189 m3
V5 = 0.2 x 0.15 x 0.3
= 0.00900 m3
V6= 0.26 x 0.024 x 0.3
= 0.00187 m3
V7 = 1/2 x 0.076 x 0.26 x 0.3
= 0.00296 m3
Calculation
Block weight = Volume x density x gravity acceleration
= 0.02722 x 130 kg/m3 × 9.81 m/s2 + 40 x 9.81
= 427.1137
