• Introduction
• ERP
• ERP in IBM
Introduction
 Global information system
• GIS integrates hardware, software, and data for capturing,
managing, analyzing, and displaying all forms of geographically
referenced information.
• GIS technology can be used for scientific investigations, resource
management, asset management, archaeology and other
purposes.

 Decision support systems

• DSS is a computer-based information system that supports
business or organizational decision-making activities.
• DSSs serve the management, operations, and planning levels of
an organization and help to make decisions, which may be rapidly
changing and not easily specified in advance.
ERP
 Enterprise Resource Planning is an integration of business
management practices and modern technology.
 ERP consists of 3 components:
• Business Management Practices
• Information Technology
• Specific Business Objectives.
 ERP helps Improve Productivity, Speed and Performance.
 The key objective of an ERP system is to integrate information &
processes from all functional divisions of an organization and merge it
for effortless access and structured workflow.
 The integration is typically accomplished by constructing a single
database repository that communicates with multiple software
applications providing different divisions of an organization with various
business statistics and information.
An ERP system is usually based on a database and includes all
business processes of a company
It is utilized in planning the production and financials, and
monitoring the realization.
One reason for using an ERP system is to collect the financial
data related to operations automatically without the need for
additional reporting work.
In order to use an ERP system efficiently, all the data collection
should be as automated and real-time as possible.
Computers have become so complex and commonplace in
organizations, it is much easier to integrate all of the data and
processing software modules and hardware into one large unit
that is easier to access and control.
