Dust Definition & its Sources:

Dust is defined as the solid airborne particles of

sand, lime and clay materials present in air.
• Sources of Dust

 Construction activates, excavations, reclamation, filing …..

 Traffic vehicles, equipment and trucks in unpaved and rough

roads in particularly when they are driven with high speed.

 In case when wind blows with high speed in remote areas,

desert and in spots where there is no plantation.
 Impacts of the Presence of Dust in Air:
 Health Impacts:
 Such as; the respiratory system inflammation (cough – wheezing –
nasal difficulties and Asthma),, sometimes dust can cause eyes
irritation.

 General Impacts:
 ]Dust may cause low vision and hampers the traffic of vehicles &
equipment which may lead to accidents and traffic congestion.
Mitigation Measures to Reduce Dust
Emission:
There are some procedures and actions must be
followed and implemented on the site in order to
minimized the dust emission, these procedures
are as follows:
 Wateringand compacting of haul
roads on site.
 Provision of wet suppression during loading of trucks

×
(when loading fine materials at high wind speeds)

 Regular inspection & wet suppression of
stockpiles where necessary including wind
shielding.

√ ×
 Where the surface of access roads has become
excessively compacted be heavy vehicles traffic, it
should be lightly ripped to encourage infiltration
rather than runoff.
 Vehicles carrying dry earth materials on public highway
must be cover.
