London
With so many impressive tourist attractions and things to do, it's no
wonder that the capital of the United Kingdom is one of the most
visited cities worldwide, receiving over 20 million tourists each year.
The population of about 9 million makes it Europe’s third most
populous city.
1. Buckingham Palace

and administrative headquarters of the
monarch of the United Kingdom.

2. The Houses of Parliament and Big Ben
Houses of Parliament, also called Palace of Westminster, serves as the meeting
place for both the House of Commons and the House of Lords, the two houses of
the Parliament of the United Kingdom.It is located on the left bank of the River
Thames.
Big Ben is the nickname for the Great Bell of the striking clock at the north end of
the Houses of Parliament.
3. The Tower of London
The Tower of London is a historic castle on the north bank of the River
Thames in central London. The White Tower, which gives the entire
castle its name, was built by William the Conqueror in 1078 and was a
resented symbol of oppression. The castle was also used as a prison
and it used to be the home of the Crown Jewels of England.
4. The Tower Bridge
The Tower Bridge is a suspension bridge in London, built between 1886
and 1894. It is special because it can be opened when a large ship
wants to pass under it.
The Tower Bridge Exhibition is a display housed in the bridge's twin
towers, the high-level walkways and the Victorian engine rooms. It uses
films, photos and interactive displays to explain why and how Tower
Bridge was built.
5. St Paul’s Cathedral
St Paul's Cathedral is an Anglican cathedral in London. It was designed in the
English Baroque style by Sir Christopher Wren. The cathedral is one of the most
famous and most recognisable sights of London. Its dome has dominated the
skyline for over 300 years. At 111 m high, it was the tallest building in London from
till 1963. The dome remains among the highest in the world. Several services were
held in the cathedral: the funerals of Admiral Nelson and Winston Churchill, jubilee
celebrations of Queen Elizabeth II., the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana
Spencer. The cathedral is a working church with hourly prayer and daily services.
6. Trafalgar Square
Trafalgar Square is a public square in the Central
London, established in the early 19th century
around the area formerly known as Charing Cross.
The Square's name commemorates the Battle of
Trafalgar, the British naval victory in the Napoleonic
Wars over France off the coast of Cape Trafalgar.
In the middle of the square there is a monument
built to commemorate Admiral Horatio Nelson,
who died at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.
7. Madamme Tussauds Museum
Madame Tussauds is a wax museum in London. It has smaller museums
in a number of other major cities. It was founded by wax sculptor Marie
Tussaud in 1835. It is a major tourist attraction in London, displaying
the waxworks of famous and historical figures, as well as popular film
and television characters played by famous actors, film stars, sports
stars, and famous murderers.
8. The London Eye
The London Eye, or the Millennium Wheel, is a cantilevered
observation wheel on the South Bank of the River Thames in London.
The structure is 135 metres (443 ft) tall and the wheel has a diameter
of 120 metres (394 ft). When it opened to the public in 2000 it was the
world's tallest Ferris wheel. You can have a magnificent view over the
city from one of the capsules.
9. Harrods
It is one of the largest and most famous department stores in Europe.
The store occupies a 5-acre (2 ha) site and has 330 departments
covering 1.1 million sq ft (100,000 m2) of retail space. You can find
shops of the most famous trade marks on one of the 7th floors. If you
get tired of shopping, relax at one of the restaurants, cafés or bars.
