Principles of Management 3

Rules for your task

1. You continue the business opportunity described last week, perhaps with
refinements of the 4Ps I may have suggested.
2. There are five or six students in your work group, but the business has only one
owner.
3. The owner sets up the business, but does not contribute to any of the work done
(such as purchasing, assembling, selling, etc.).
4. The owner will hire 5 employees who will get all the operational work done.
5. The owner has a capital of VND 100 million, with access to a pre-approved line of
credit up to VND1 billion.

Work group task 1 (40 minutes)

Don’t get confused between the organization of your work group and the organization of the
employees in the business!
1. Schedule the work of the owner
1. Discuss and then have two students do this.
2. One student describes the process.
3. The other student describes the results of the process:
1. The design of the businesses operations
2. Organization
3. Start-up plan
2. The remaining students describe
1. How the owner thinks through how to fulfill the 4Ps (to design the operations of the business).
2. How the owner organizes the operations, deciding the number of employees. allocating work among them.
3. The start-up plan (almost not detail), recruitment and supplying funds
3. One of the tasks of the owner was to divide the work among the employees. Each member of
your work group describes the “job” of one of the employees.
4. That same member of your work group lists the commands to be given to each employee.
