ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

I would like to express my special thanks of gratitude to my teacher

Shailesh Mishra ,who gave me the golden opportunity to do this wonderful
project on the topic Importance of Environmental Studies which also
helped me in doing a lot of Research and i came to know about so many
new things I am really thankful to them.
Secondly i would also like to thank my parents and friends who helped me
a lot in finalizing this project within the limited time frame.
WHAT IS ENVIRONMENT?

It's everything that makes up our surroundings and affects our ability
to live on the earth—the air we breathe, the water that covers most of
the earth's surface, the plants and animals around us, and much more.

In recent years, scientists have been carefully examining the ways that
people affect the environment. They have found that we are causing air
pollution, deforestation, acid rain, and other problems that are
dangerous both to the earth and to ourselves.
WHAT IS ENVIRONMENTAL
STUDIES?

Environmental studies are the scientific study of the environmental system

and the status of its inherent or induced changes on organisms. It includes
not only the study of physical and biological characters of the environment
but also the social and cultural factors and the impact of man on
environment.
ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES

Environmental issues are harmful effects of human activity on the

biophysical environment. Environmental protection is a practice of protecting
the natural environment on the individual, organizational or governmental
levels, for the benefit of both the environment and humans.
Environment destruction caused by humans is a global, ongoing problem. By
the year 2050, the global human population is expected to grow by 2 billion
people, thereby reaching a level of 9.6 billion people. [The human effects on
Earth can be seen in many different ways. A main effect, is an increase in
global temperature. According to the report ”Our Changing Climate”, the
global warming that has been going on for the past 50 years is primarily due
to human activities. Since 1895, the average temperature in the United States
has increased by between 1.3°F and 1.9°F, with most of the increase taking
place since around 1970
WHY STUDY ENVIRONMENTAL
STUDIES

Our world today faces serious environmental challenges—pollution,

climate change and species extinction, to name a few. These challenges will
require significant adjustments in the way we work, play, live and
govern.Everybody will need to become more educated about environmental
issues—whether to learn how to adapt to these changes or mitigate them—
and we'll need some people who are particularly specialized
IMPORTANCE OF
ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES

• Environmental Studies is useful in checking environmental pollution

and related solutions.
• It helps in maintaining ecological balance.
• It helps to gain skills to assess the environmental impact of human
activities. Environmental study will help to protect biodiversity.
• It gives us basic knowledge of environment and associated problems.
• It helps to achieve sustainable development.
1. ENVIRONMENT ISSUES BEING
OF INTERNATIONAL IMPORTANCE

It has been well recognised that environment issues like global warming
and ozone depletion, acid rain, marine pollution and biodiversity are not
merely national issues but are global issues and hence must be tackled with
international efforts and cooperation.
2. PROBLEMS CROPPED IN THE
WAKE OF DEVELOPMENT

Development, in its wake gave birth to Urbanization, Industrial Growth,

Transportation Systems, Agriculture and Housing etc. However, it has
become phased out in the developed world. The North, to cleanse their own
environment has, fact fully, managed to move ‘dirty’ factories of South.
When the West developed, it did so perhaps in ignorance of the
environmental impact of its activities. Evidently such a path is neither
practicable nor desirable, even if developing world follows that.
3. EXPLOSIVELY INCREASE IN
POLLUTION

World census reflects that one in every seven persons in this planted lives
in India. Evidently with 16 per cent of the world's population and only 2.4
per cent of its land area, there is a heavy pressure on the natural resources
including land. Agricultural experts have recognized soils health problems
like deficiency of micronutrients and organic matter, soil salinity and
damage of soil structure.
NEED FOR AN ALTERNATIVE
SOLUTION

It is essential, specially for developing countries to find alternative

paths to an alternative goal. We need a goal as under:
(1) A goal, which ultimately is the true goal of development an
environmentally sound and sustainable development.
(2) A goal common to all citizens of our earth.
(3) A goal distant from the developing world in the manner it is from
the over-consuming wasteful societies of the “developed” world.
NEED TO SAVE HUMANITY FROM
EXTINCTION

It is incumbent upon us to save the humanity from exinction. Consequent to

our activities constricting the environment and depleting the biosphere, in
the name of development.
NEED FOR WISE PLANNING OF
DEVELOPMENT

Our survival and sustenance depend. Resources withdraw, processing and

use of the product have all to by synchronized with the ecological cycles in
any plan of development our actions should be planned ecologically for the
sustenance of the environment and development.
