The generator provides the following functionality:
- generate and regulate the high voltage for the tube
components - generate and regulate the filament heating current which indirectly regulates the tube current
- accelerate the rotating anode at scan start and brake the anode after the scan

The X-ray Tube Assembly (XTA) is called DURA 302-MV (Somatom Emotion), DURA202-MV (Somatom
Balance) or Dura 181-MV (Somatom Esprit). It consists of the
components - tube housing
- X-ray Tube (XRT)
Emotion - cooling system including an expansion cylinder
- interface board D 520 outside the XTA.

The housing contains, beside the XRT, the focus deflection coil and the stator winding of the anode motor.

This overview shows the first ICS, the primergy 070; it was introduced with the Somatom Balance, Somatom
Emotion in 1999. It was replaced later by the Primergy 170 and the Primergy 170/Syngo. The last model is easily
components recognized by the dongle at the tower's rear and the CD writer instead of a CD ROM drive.
The ICS is the host computer for the scanner. It provides the user interface, all hardware interfaces to the gantry, the
Emotion IRS and the peripherals. The ICS controls the scan as well as the reconstruction computer.
The latest model of the ICS is the Celsius 460 for all members of the Emotion family.

The IRS is responsible for the following functionality:
- Receiving data from gantry.
components - Receiving control commands from ICS and sending status and error codes to ICS.
- Storing of received data on local hard disk for temporary storage and data recovery after power failure.
Emotion - High speed transfer of reconstructed images and raw data to ICS with small delay
This page shows the primergy 470 model, recognizable by the label 400 series at the tower front. This model is used
in the Somatom Emotion, Somatom Balance and Somatom Esprit+.
The latest IRS model is the Celsius 150 for all members of the Emotion family.

The Data Measuring System (DMS) comprises the detector and the Data Acquisition System (DAS).
The detector has a different number of modules depending on the model:
components Somatom EmotionDuo with 42 modules (2 x 16 channels each) and 3 temperature sensors.
The DAS has a different number of converter boards (32 channels each) depending on the model:
Emotion Somatom Emotion Duo has 42 converter boards;
and a DAS controller board on a backplane with connectors.
The PCU (Power Conversion Unit) is the power supply for the DMS.
