 A software platform and operating system for mobile devices

created by Google specifically for use on mobile


devices (cell phones mostly) IN 2005
Android is based upon a modified version of the
Linux kernel..
Google formed a group of hardware, software, and
telecommunication companies called the Open
Handset Alliance to develop Android ..
The goal was of making money from Android, either
by selling phones, phone service, or mobile
applications.

default OS instead of Apples OS-ios4.3(4 iphone 4) or
windows OS, blackberry's OS or symbian....

CHALLENGES
CPU typically runs 500-600 Mhz….

Disk (flash) access is very slow….

Apps must pause/quit often, and restore to give


the illusion that they are always running….

Very high DPI - small text may not be readable….

Network access may be slow….
