CHE-211Advanced Engineering Thermodynamics for

Chemical Engineering Students

Lecturer : Yazdan P. Razi, PhD in Thermal Engineering/Energy conversion

Expert in thermo vibrational problems (microgravity conditions), in fluid and
porous media, solution of differential equations with periodic coefficients,
Experimental analysis of thermal systems, Optical visualizations
18 years lecturing experience in three continents
Authors of more than 40 research papers

Email: yazdan.pedramrazi@sjsu.edu
Topics of Presentation:

1. Some comments on HW#15

2. A few Final Projects
3. Math Attic
4. A little discussion about Final Exam
4. HW#16
Some comments on HW#15:
4*. Check this link and compare it to our class:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbJcQYVtZMo
5*. If xy+yz+zx=12, what is the maximum of xyz?
4*. The idea of the link to the addition of the message of friendship and peace was the fact that Constructal Law
and music and the design of the musical instruments. As it may seem strange, but there is no paper in the
Constructal Law devoted to the design of the musical instrument.

5*. In question 5, only the positive solutions were intended correct for the reason this problem is a geometric
problem related to the areas.
A few Final Projects:

1. Optimization of a Solar Chimney.

2. Optimum spacing by using the Lagrange Multiplier.

3. An analytical approach to the production of gas by using hydraulic fracture

and the treatment.

4. A review of Constructal Law in Chemical Engineering and solving some problems

by this method.

5. Exergy analysis of a Solar Chimney

Math Attic:
Please check the following website:
https://cms.math.ca/publications/crux/

This website is about Crux a mathematical journal. You can send your
solution, to the problems you like.
Also, you can see other researchers' response to the same problem.
A little discussion on Final (it is not obligatory):

Some students, did not try hard to solve problems.

If this is your case, try to solve a problem in the final and explain it physically in full.
Then you can upload it in HW#16. see HW#16 and its deadline

HW#16:Due 5/29/21 (it is not obligatory)

1*. Comment on the final exam.

2*.What ideas you think should be added to the class so that they increase the
productivity of the class (I included the syllabus too).
3*. If you can add more to the solution of problems in final exam, or have an idea of
solution of the problems, write them in full .
4*. In the final, on question number 4 you may find the maximum flow rate as:

a)Write the assumptions to arrive at the above relation, comment on

the problem from physical point of view (Hint: use the scale analysis).
b)Find the optimal pressure drop
