Present Continuous
1.1 Present Simple (Simple Present Tense)
• Affirmative (Positive)
Quantity Noun/pronoun Form
Singular He/she/it/Ali plays
Plural I/you/we/they/Ali and Aisyah play

• Negative
Quantity Noun/pronoun Form
Singular He/she/it/Ali does not (doesn’t)
plural I/you/we/they/Ali and Aisyah do not (don’t)
• Questions
Does he/she/it/Ali play?
Do I/we/you/they/Ali and Aisyah play?
*only verb to do changes according to quantity
*verb remains in the base form
• Short answers
Yes, he/she/it/Ali does. / No, he/she/it/Ali does not (doesn’t).
Yes, I/you/we/they/Ali and Aisyah do. / No, I/you/we/they/Ali and
Aisyah do not (don’t)
When to use it?
• to describe facts/ general truth
Eg. Sun rises every morning.
• To describe routines or habits
Eg. They walk to school together every morning.
• To describe permanent states
They stay in an apartment.
• To describe timetabled events in the future.
The concert begins at 9.00p.m.

When to use it?
• To describe actions that are in progress at the time of speaking.

• To describe future plans and arrangement.
Eg. My sister is going to Ukraine next week.

1.4 Stative Verbs
• Verbs that describe states (keadaan) and not actions
• They are not usually used in the continuous tenses.
