 REQUIREMENTS FOR PANEL FROM ACADEMIC COMMUNITY


 1. expertise on the thesis/dissertation topic to be defended
 2. appropriate masters and doctors degree in the field of specialization of the
students to be paneled
 3. established a good track record in conducting and evaluating research.
ROLE OF THE ADVISER

 The role of the adviser in the successful completion of any thesis/dissertation


undertaking cannot be overemphasized. Utmost, the skills and competencies
of the adviser must be ensured which are necessary in coming up with quality
output.
 A. Nomination of the Thesis/Dissertation Adviser. Graduate student enrolled
in Thesis/Dissertation Writing 1 reserves the right to nominate an adviser who
shall professionally assist him in the conduct of the study until it is completed
but to be approved by the Dean.
 B. Appointment of adviser will be signed by the Dean, and signed by the
chosen adviser for (maximum of 5 advisees per school year).
 C. The student will submit to the adviser the output of the Seminar in Thesis
Writing (chapter 1-3) for consultation together with a consultation records
 Records the date of consultation, topics/comments and suggestions made by the
adviser to the advisee. (every time the student consult the adviser they should bring
the consultation records). Note: venue and mode of consultation should be agreed
by the student-adviser.
 Upon scrutiny/advising/ review of the thesis of the students, the adviser will affixed
his/her signature in the recommendation of the students to present for pre-orals
(Thesis Writing 1) first semester and Thesis Writing 2 (second semester)use GS Form
9) . Request the student to prepare (one copy) for evaluation and approval by the
Dean. If found out that the thesis meritoriously prepared and completed, the office
will schedule the pre/final oral defense of thesis.
 The graduate student will be requested to prepare 5 copies for masteral and 7
copies for doctoral in temporary binding. (includes bibliography, questionnaire and
draft of permit to study)
 The Student will submit to the office the following together with the
temporary binded thesis/dissertation; 1) recommendation for pre oral
defense signed by the adviser (2) approved thesis/designation adviser, (3)
adviser-advisee consultation records) 4) two copies of official receipts of
payment for pre-oral defense.
 DURING THE THESIS/DISSERTATION DEFENSE (Virtual mode)
 1. Invitation or information of schedule defense via email or text
 2. Google meeting for (30 minutes title defense) and one (1) hour for pre and
final defense.
 3. Presentation of the thesis – by the candidate in the power point
presentation
 4. Comments and suggestions be made on the thesis presented with the assistance of the adviser.
(the adviser is refrain from answering questions in behald of the advisee), only matters to be cleared
and allow by the chair to discuss matters pertaining to the thesis.
 5. Deliberation of the thesis with the chairman and the members follows , and the adviser and
advisee will be requested to sign out in the room.
 6. The chairman and members will prepare the rating of the candidate in the following criteria; (with
rating sheet)
 Presentation of the thesis – 20%
 Mastery of the subject matter and related studies - 20%
 Quality of written work (mechanics and contents ) - 30%
 Personality (openness to suggestions honesty, objectivity, etc. -10%
 Articulation and Fluency – 20 %
TOTAL 100%
 7. After the deliberation of the panel, the Chairman will announce the result
of the pre oral defense rating.

 AFTER PRE ORAL DEFENSE (WHAT TO DO?)


 1. Minutes of the pre/final oral defense will be signed by the
panelists/adviser and the Dean.
 2. Collect all the thesis/dissertation copies from the panel.
 3. Students will prepare the draft of the thesis and incorporate all the
suggestions made by the panel during the pre or final defense.
 4. The adviser will check and review the draft of the manuscript.
 5. Students will continue with the consultation of the adviser in preparation
of the instrument to gather the data (questionnaire etc.), guide them in the
validation and administration or gathering of data.
 6. Check the data gathered of your advisee according to the adequacy of
samples, advisee will seek approval for statistician. Interpretation of the
data by the researcher with the guidance of the adviser.
 7. Request your advisee to prepare one copy of their thesis/dissertation for
approval by the Dean.

 AFTER FINAL ORAL DEFENSE (WHAT TO DO?)


 1. Follow step 1 to 4 in the pre and final orals.
 2. Summarize the suggestions made by the panel according to the following
format;
 Suggestions made / action taken / page number
 3. Route the draft of the thesis/dissertation to the panelists ( to check if the
comments and suggestions made during the final defense were incorporated in
the draft. The panelist will signed the approval sheet and the minutes once
they agreed on the compliance of the comments and suggestions.
 4. The student will prepare one copy (as corrected and checked by the
adviser) and be submitted to the Dean for approval, once complied will
endorse to language editor for editing the thesis.
 5. Editor will edit the language, form and style of the thesis and the student
will pay editing fee at the city treasurers office.
 6. After Editing, the student will incorporate the suggestions and comments
made by the editor and confer it also to the adviser if the editors comments
were properly incorporated according to language, form and style.
 7. Submit to the Dean the revised manuscripts for final approval and
reproduction in hard copies using the UCC format/school color.

 September 16 and 17, 2021 – enrollment of thesis/dissertation writing 1st batch
 October 7 and 8, 2021 – enrolment of thesis/dissertation writing 2nd batch
 October 11-17, 2021 – MID-TERM EXAMINATION
 October 18, 2021 – start of thesis/dissertation pre oral defense (those enrolled in TW 1 and
DW 1- this first semester 2021-22
 December 10, 2021 – Last day of Title defense for Seminar in Thesis Writing
 December 17, 2021 – Last day of Final Oral defense (old students) enrolled in Thesis Writing
(6 units – one semester)
 December 20, 2021 to January 2, 2022 – Christmas break
 January 8, 2022 – Last day of thesis/dissertation pre oral defense
 January 11-12, 2022 – Submission of Grades
