ASSESSMENT FOR LEARNING,
ASSESSMENT AS LEARNING AND
ASSESSMENT OF LEARNING:
HOW ARE THEY PRACTICED?
In assessment FOR Learning, teachers
use assessment results to inform or adjust
their teaching
Assessment OF Learning is usually given
at the end of a unit, grading period or a
term like a semester.
Assessment AS Learning is associated
with self-assessment by itself is already a
form of learning for the students.
EPISODE 2
GUIDING PRINCIPLES IN THE
ASSESSMENT OF LEARNING
For assessment process to
accomplish its purpose, i.e., to ensure
learning, we must be guided by basic
assessment principles
This episode is focused on basic
guiding principles of assessment.
The following are the
principles that should guide
you in the conduct of
assessment
1. Begin by specifying clearly and exactly what
you what to assess.
2. The intended learning outcome/ lesson
objective NOT CONTENT is the basis of the
assessment task.
3. Set your criterion of success or acceptable
standard of success.
4. Make use of varied tools foe assessment
data-gathering and multiple sources of
assessment data.
5. Learners must be given feedback about
their performance.
6. Assessment should be on real-world
application and not on out-context drills.
7. Emphasize on the assessment of higher-
order thinking.
8. Provide opportunities for self-assessment.
Assessment is a very important
tool used by teachers to determine
if the lesson they have presented
or taught is well transferred to
their transferred to their learners.
EPISODE 3
USING DIFFERENT ASSESSMENT
METHODS, TOOLS, AND TASKS
Assessment methods can be classified as
traditional and authentic.
Traditional assessment method refers to the
usual paper-and-pencil test.
Authentic assessment is also called alternative

traditional.
Learners have multiple intelligences and
varied learning styles

TABLE OF SPECIFICATION
(TOS) CONTENT VALIDITY
and OUTCOMES-BASED
EDUCATIO (OBE)
A table of Specification (TOS) is a
table that specifies the learning
outcomes/lesson objectives, the
amount of time spent for each
outcome/objective which will serve
as basis in determining the
corresponding number of test items.
TOS helps teachers align
objectives, instruction, and
assessment, it is sometimes called
a test blueprint.
Aligning assessment tools and
tasks to learning outcomes is a
must in Outcome-Based Teaching-
Learning.
TOS should include the
instructional objectives and
instructional content. TOS typically
designed based on the list of course
objective the topic covered in the
class, the amount of time spent on
those topic and the emphasis and
space provided in the text.
EPISODE 6
ON PORTPOLIOS
A portfolio of student’s work is a
direct evidence of learning. But it is
not a mere collection of student’s
work or output. Therefore, a students
reflection must accompany each
output or work.
The student’s work is either a
product or a performance.
A learning portfolio is a
purposeful collection of student
work that exhibits a student’s
effort, progress, achievements
and competencies gained in a
given area or course.
There are 3 types of portfolio,
namely:
1) growth/development portfolio
2) showcase/best work/display
portfolio and;
3) assessment/evaluation portfolio.
