TYPES OF PESTS

TWO TYPES ARE MAJOR:

• Household pests
• Agricultural pests
 HOUSEHOLD PESTS
• Mites--- feed on stored grain and cheese products, bite and
cause skin irritation.
• Moths--- damage food products and clothes and also cause
allergic infection
• Silverfish--- feed on starchy material and items of high proteins,
not harmful to human health
 HOUSEHOLD PESTS
• Ticks; damage decorative plants, small in size spreading
dangerous diseases like Lyme disease
• Bees/wasps; major threat to human health, people die due to their
stings
• Fleas; cause skin allergic infection to human health
 HOUSEHOLD PESTS
• Cockroaches--- presents behind sinks, stoves, refrigerators and
inside furniture and spread diseases like cholera and Dysentery
• Rats/mice--- due to their destructive eating habits they eat electric
cables and cause fire
 AGRICULTURAL PESTS

• Locusts; can eat and destroy whole crops

• Japanese beetles; feed on 300 species of plants
• True bugs; feed of plants & flowers, spread disease in plants
 AGRICULTURAL PESTS

• Corn rootworm; destroy corn leaves, lay eggs through the crops
• Stink bugs; reduce crop yield in cotton, apple & peach
• Birds; damage the crop, farmer use scarecrow to prevent crops
