MINIMUM PUBLIC HEALTH STANDARDS
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
• Aims to provide guidance on sectoral
planning on the implementation of “NON
PHARMACEUTICAL INTERNVETIONS (NPIs) as
minimum public health standards to mitigate
the threat of COVID-19, and shall serve as a
basis in the decision-making process and
development of more specific sectoral
policies for COVID-19 response.

MINIMUM PUBLIC HEALTH STANDARDS

References used by DepEd in outlining its Minimum


Health Standards include Guidelines on the Risk Based
Public Health Standards for COVID-19 as issued by the
Department of Health (DOH) as follows:
• Mitigation “the action of reducing the severity,
seriousness”
• Increasing Mental and Physical Resillence “The
Capacity to Recover”
• Reducing Transmission, Contact and Duration of
Infection
THE NEW NORMAL

The New Normal: refers to the behaviour,


situations, practices that will be
institutionalized to reduce transmission of the
illness; actions that will become second
nature to the general public.

Washing your hands properly takes about as long as singing
"Happy Birthday" twice,
WHAT TO DO IN SCHOOLS
• Physical distancing and maintaining personal hygiene to minimize the risk
of infection.
• Students and school personnel with fever will not be allowed to go to
school; medical cert when reporting back
• Regular disinfection in all schools areas. (all rooms, school grounds,
canteens); clean your own personal spaces.
• One confirmed patient, school should close down; everyone at the school
should self-quarantine for 2 weeks. (referral to BHERT)
• All classrooms should have isopropyl alcohol or alcohol based hand
sanitizers.
WHAT TO DO IN SCHOOLS
• Encourage pupils to bring their own hand sanitizers.
• Advise everyone to bring their own meals, snacks, and eating
utensils.
• Hand-washing facilities.
• Number of pupils per classroom will be smaller.
• Activities involving grouping of students should be discouraged.
• Moving from one classroom to another should be avoided.
• Dissuade parents/ guardians from staying in school premises.
CONCERNS/WHAT TO PREPARE FOR
• Schools/ classrooms can become breeding grounds for a
new wave of COVID-19 infections.
• Children will be more exposed to infection.
• Water, sanitation, and hygiene status in schools (WinS)
• Medical experts believed the virus are affecting other
organs in children.
• Crowding of parents/ guardians in schools.
WHAT TO DO? WHAT IS OUR MINDSET
• Reopening of schools should not be viewed as the end of the
outbreak.
• All should remain vigilant.
• Proactive; learn how to navigate in this new normal.
• Close coordination and collaboration with the local officials.
• Partnership with stakeholders.
• Referral to BHERT or to any nearby health facility of respiratory
illnesses.
• Weekly submission of Checklist of Learners with Chief Complaints
to the Division Medical Office
