SIMPLE PAST

TENSE

SİMPLE PAST TENSE
 The simple past is used to talk about a completed
action in a time before now.
e.g
• My father died last year.
• He lived in Fiji in 1976.
• He was a sailor in the U.S.A army.

 Duration is not important. The time of the action


can be in the recent past or the distant past.
EXAMPLES
• The rain stopped a few minutes ago. (stop)(+)
• Nick didn’t come to school yesterday. (come)(-)
• It didn’t snow yesterday. (snow)(-)
• He called the ambulance. (call)(+)
• A gardener swept up dead leaves. (sweep)(+)
• Theybought 2 tickets for the concert.(buy)(+)
• Michael Jackson recorded his last album in
2009.(record)(+)
• A dog bit me last evening. (bite)(+)

• He didn’t win the Nobel. (win)(-)

• They did not stay at the party all night.(stay)(-)
