What are two-dimensional shapes?

• Two-dimensional shapes (2D) are shapes that can be


drawn only in 2-dimension, length and width. They
can be drawn on a piece of paper
Why do we use shapes?

• We use shapes to help children identify and organize


visual information.
What is color?

• Color is the aspect of any object that can be described


in terms of hue, lightness, and saturation.
Why we use colors?

• We use colors to create the cognitive link between


visual clues and words.
Why are shapes and colors important?

• Shapes and colors are important to help understand


math and geometric concepts. For example: shape,
size, and position.
Standards and Objectives
• Standard 1.G.1 The student will distinguish between a two-
dimensional shape’s defining (e.g., number of sides) and non-defining
attributes (e.g., color).

• Objectives:
• Students will be able to identify a shape by the number of sides
• Students will be able to practice colors
• Students will be able to combine colors and shapes if put together
