“JIHAD AND PEACE”

 MEANING OF JIHAD
- THE LITERAL MEANING OF JIHAD IS STRUGGLE OR EFFORT, AND IT MEANS
MUCH MORE THAN HOLY WAR. PRIMARY REFERS TO THE HUMAN
STRUGGLE TO PROMOTE WHAT IS RIGHT AND TO PREVENT WHAT IS
WRONG
 JIHAD AND ITS FORM
THE ULAMAL MUSLIM SCHOLARS HAVE REFERRED TO DIFFERENT TYPES OF JIHAD, SUCH
AS;
1) JIHAD AGAINST THE SELF - self-control, self-restrain.
2) JIHAD AGAINST THE DEVIL/SATAN – keeping away from satanic whispers and doubtful matters
portrayed by Satan and resisting satanic wicked desires.
3) JIHAD AGAINST TONGUE – means controlling it, using it to enjoin what is good, forbid what is
wrong, spread the correct teachings of Islam and answer false ideologies.
4) JIHAD AGAINST AGGRESSION – its purpose is to protect Islam and the lives, honor, and property of
Muslims.
5) And other types of Jihad like JIHAD AGAINST THE HYPOCRITES.
 JIHAD AND PEACE
ISLAM IS THE RELIGION OF PEACE ; ITS MEANING IS PEACE; ONE OF ALLAH’S NAME IS PEACE;
THE DAILY GREETINGS OF MUSLIM IS PEACE; PARADISE IS THE HOUSE OF PEACE AND THE
ADJECTIVE “MUSLIM” MEANS PEACEFUL.
THE AIM OF JIHAD IS TO HAVE A PEACEFUL MUSLIM COMMUNITY THAT FOLLOWS SHARI’AH
AND LAWS OF THE COUNTRY. ISLAM WAS NEVER A RELIGION OF TERROR BUT A RELIGION OF
JUSTICE AND PEACE.

• WHAT ISLAM PROHIBITS SHOULD BE CORRECTED BY JIHAD.

• THE EVILNESS OF INNER SELF SHOULD BE CORRECTED BY JIHAD AN-NAFS
• THE VIOLATORS, THE OPPRESSORS OF THE PEOPLE AND THOSE WHO ARE GRABBING THE
LAND OF MUSLIM SHOULD BE CORRECTED BY JIHAD AL-QITAL.
 JIHAD AS A DEFENSIVE MEASURE
-It is only a defensive measure, justified by the practical principles of Islam, as long as wrong, injustice, and
aggression exist in the world.
ALLAH SAYS IN THE GLOURIOUS QUR’-AN:
“Permission (to fight) is given to those upon whom war is made because of oppressed, and most surely
Allah is well able to assist them; those who have been expelled from their homes without a just cause except
that they say: our lord is Allah. And had there not been Allah’s repelling some people by others, certainly
there would have been pulled down cloisters and churches and synagogues and mosques in which Allah’s
name is much remembered; and surely Allah will help him who help his cause; most surely Allah is strong,
Mighty. Those who we should we establish them in land, will keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate and enjoin
good and forbid evil; and Allah’s is the end of affairs. (Qur’an 22:39-41)
-Mohammad (S.A.W) said;

“whoever dies without fighting in the cause of Allah, nor does he express any desire (or
determination) for it, would die with a characteristic of hypocrisy.”

JIHAD
1) GREATER JIHAD/ INNER JIHAD/ 2) LESSER JIHAD/ PHYSICAL
PERSONAL JIHAD
JIHAD/ ARMED STRUGGLE
MANIFESTATION:
• Fighting Satan and evil in the self MANIFESTATIONS:
• Discipline of senses • Fighting oppression and injustice
• Patience, perseverance
• Self- defence and not used to either
• Reflecting what is good; doing what is
good and desirable convert people to islam or gain
• Etc. land.
• Opposing corrupt leaders.
