Introduction

• Newsletter System is a web application which provides the

room to share all kind of digital data along in the
organization.

• This application is a scaled down version of our existing

application which is used by various clients like CMHF, KSI
etc.

• Tested on both IE 6.0 or greater and Firefox 3.0 or above.

Overview
What can an organization do with this system ?
Organization

• Organization can create and manipulate information of contacts and other users.

• For that, there is availability of maintaining administrator groups and login page for them to enter to main
administrative page.

• Organization can manage data related to system. E.g. manage departments.

• Organization can create newsletters and select contacts by means of many filters and send the newsletter to
them.

• Initially, the newsletter is stored in the database and later a background process created in VB is executed so
as to send those requested emails from DB.

Contacts

• Contacts can edit their information and settings. For this they have option to login for contacts and redirect
them to main page where they can edit their settings. E.g. change password.
Admin Section

• Login to system

• Create or manipulate new contacts, super/normal administrator &

newsletters and send emails respectively.

• Access on executable application created on VB for sending mails.

• View reports of newsletter or contacts.

• Other areas that admin user can manage data like Departments,
Newsletter Categories etc.
Emailing application

• Created in VB.

• Executed by administrator.

• Picks newsletter from database.

• Sends email to respective contacts with the help of SMTP

server.

• Keeps log file of status of sent newsletter & errors.

Contact Section

• Login to system

• Can change their own information or settings like accept

newsletter, change password etc.

• View the newsletters sent to them and manage those.

• Can hide newsletter from list but can’t delete newsletter.

Overall Application is based on:

• Classic ASP : For all front-end functioning of system.

• MS SQL: Used as Database System for storing data.

• HTML/CSS: For layout and design.

• Visual Basic: Background module (VB application) for picking the information from
database and sending them out to respective persons.

• Qk SMTP Server: Uses EasyMail Objects (ActiveX) to send emails from the
page.

• Javascript: For Validation of input fields on the system.
