CHRISTIAN MORALITY

• Christian morality consists of living one’s life with

guidance and inspiration from the Christian scriptures
and traditions. (Ed Langerak, St. Olaf Professor of
Philosophy, Emeritus)

• Christian morality is a set of moral standards based

on the teachings of the Bible, especially the teachings
of Jesus. (New Life)
Being human, being moral
In your own opinion, “What
is a Human Being?”
Who are you?
Are all human beings
equal?
Human Being
• It is an individual human(Merriam –Webster’s Dictionary)
• Christian Science: the compound idea of infinite spirit : the spiritual
image and likeness of God: the full representation of the mind.
(Merriam- Webster’s Dictionary)
• Man is a creature composed of body and soul, and made to the
image and likeness of God. (Bp. Morrow, Our Catholic Faith: 1972)
The human being

“God in His infinite goodness created man

according to His image and likeness and gave
him/her many gifts, talents, and abilities in
order to make him/her His partner in
permeating the world with contagious love.”
CCC #356
Of all visible creatures, only man is “able to know
and love His creator.” He is the only creature on Earth
that God has willed for His own sake and He alone. Is
called to share, by knowledge and love, in God’s
own life. It was for this end that he was created, and
this is the fundamental reason for his dignity.
Man is the supreme good and
goal of creation. He bears God’s
image and thereby surpasses
all the other works of creation.

Genesis 1:27
“God created man in his image.
In the image of God he created
him.”
“ We realize being a person means
being by others , being with others ,
and being for others”

“NO MAN IS AN ISLAND”

Man is a thinking, creative being.
Only human persons with reason and
free will have the capacity to enter
into a personal with God.
 We are able to know more about ourselves as growing
persons-in-community who are being created,
redeemed, and made holy every day of our lives and
thus called to live as children of God.
 The Parable of the Good Samaritan illumines our
understanding of how our authentic love of neighbor
is grounded on our Christian vision of the human
person.
