BENZODIAZEPINES

Benzodiazepines are used for treating:


• anxiety and panic
• seizures (convulsions)
• insomnia or trouble sleeping

Side effects

 The side effects of benzodiazepine use may include:


• drowsiness
• confusion
• dizziness
• impaired coordination, increasing the risk of falls and accidents
• depression
• increased anxiety
Side effects

 memory problems
• behavioral changes — for example, increased risk taking
• delirium, especially in older people
• risk of dependence, especially with long-term use
• possibly an increased risk of dementia, although scientists are
unsure of this
