Homogeneous and

Heterogeneous
Mixture
• A mixture is made when two or more
substances are combined, but they are not
combined chemically. General properties of a
mixture: ● The components of a mixture can
be easily separated. ● The components each
keep their original properties.
• There are two types of mixture is
Homogenous mixture and Heterogeneous.
Homogeneous Mixture
• We can define homogenous as “being
the same” or “alike”. It may be used to
describe entities showing such features.
For example, homogenous substances
are substances that are uniform
throughout their volume and
composition. ... Thus, the substances in a
mixture retain their chemical properties
and structure.
EXAMPLE
Heterogeneous Mixture
• A heterogeneous mixture is a mixture in which the
composition is not uniform throughout the mixture. ...
By definition, a pure substance or a homogeneous
mixture consists of a single phase. A heterogeneous
mixture consists of two or more phases.
• A heterogeneous mixture is a mixture of two or more
compounds. Examples are: mixtures of sand and water
or sand and iron filings, a conglomerate rock, water and
oil, a salad, trail mix, and concrete (not cement).
