Enhanced Grade VI Performance through Project

REAM (Reinforcement, Exercises, Activities and
Mentoring)

Lead Proponent: Rolando D. Dollente

One of teacher’s most valued behavioural management tools is reinforcement.
Reinforcement can be used to teach new skills, teach a replacement behaviour for an
interfering behaviour, increase appropriate behaviours, or increase on-task behaviour
(AFIRM Team, 2015). Reinforcement may seem like a simple strategy that all teachers
use, but it is often not used as effectively as it could be.
Project REAM (Reinforcement, Exercises, Activities and Mentoring) aims to
improve pupils’ performance particularly in English, Science and Mathematics
(ENSCIMA) subjects. For the past 2 years, the school is averaging 55 percent MPS on the
said subjects. This is way below the target MPS which is 75%.
Giving both positive and negative reinforcement followed by modified/localized
exercises and activities, the researchers believe that performance of pupils will be
enhanced. Mentoring will comes next after the successful implementation of the various
activities and exercises crafted and proposed by the researchers.
To give quality learning and produce life-long learners is the definitive
purpose of the conduct of this study. Increasing the MPS on the major
subjects (ENSCIMA) through the use of reinforcement followed by giving
additional and modified activities and exercises. Likewise, the study aims to
enhance pupils learning capabilities and eventually hone their skills in the
application of their learning on the real-life scenarios. Moreover, making
the children equip in facing the challenges of life and enable them to come
up with sound judgement and decisions.

The study will seek answer to the following questions:
1. What is the average of the identified Grade VI pupils on the following
subjects
• English
• Science
• Mathematics
2. What are the contributory factors on the low performance of pupils?
3. How does project REAM affect the performance of the pupils in terms of:
• Quarterly grades
• Attendance
• Classroom behavior
Data Gathering Methods
Various instruments
Survey questionnaire will be used to collect the data on the contributory factors on
the low performance of the selected respondents. Likewise, pupils’ performance on
the target subjects will be gathered based on their report card, classroom
attendance and behavior.

Procedures for data collection
The researchers will ask permission from the pupils’ parents/guardians as well as
to the pupil-respondents on the purpose of the study. Further, the data will be
collected before and after the implementation of the program for interpretation and
analysis.

Data Analysis Plan
How the data will be analyzed and reported
The data will be analyzed through simple analysis and interpretation of the gathered
answers from the questionnaire. Responses will be the bases on the formulation of
intervention program as well as on the implementation of the project REAM. Results will
be disseminated quarterly to the intendent respondents as well as to the parents and teachers
involved.

Qualitative and/or quantitative methods used in analyzing the data
This study will utilize qualitative method with regards to the factors that contribute on the
low performance of pupils. In terms on the effect of the intervention program, simple mean
and average will be used.
