Aim :

To analyze the approaches and strategies used by National Museum, New Delhi to maintain a
meaningful connection with, and relevance for, its young adult visitor base.

Objectives:

1. By analyzing the programs offered by the National Museum. New Delhi. the study aims to
discover if there are programs specifically developed for young adults;
2. To explore how museums are catering to the needs of young adult visitors;
3. To study the role and potential of museum services in engaging young adult visitors.
 Introduction
• In the past two decades museum world have seen the rhetoric of the “new museology”,
the growth of audience research, and significantly the modification in museums’ path by
digital technologies.
• These changes have led the discussion to the visitor experience, user participation and
visitor research to the mainstream forum and confrences
• transformation from Conventional museum offering passive engagement to active
engagement
• Good at getting young children and people in their mid-thirties and above, but struggle to
attract young adult audience.
• Museums in the western countries are consistantly trying to understand the need intiatives
to attract this demographic

 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

• The information conferred in this paper will add to a small but growing body of literature on
audience research and engagement.
• The study is focused on a significant Indian audience segment which is positively increasing
its share in the population and sometimes overlooked.
• In order to remain relevant in this ever-changing era, a museum should not be confined to its
present visitors and should always strive to attract new audiences.
• Studying and understanding its current audience may facilitate museums adapt to the
potential changes of the future.
 Research Design

Research Questions
My primary research question is:
1. How does the National Museum, New Delhi engage with their young adult community
members of the society?
To answer the primary question, four auxiliary questions will be used:
1. How do young adults currently experience the national museum?
2. What sorts of programs are used to engage young adults?
3. What changes in the museum’s engagement programs and new trends would young adults like to
see happen?
 Methodology

• The research utilizes both primary and secondary sources to gain a comprehensive understanding on
the topic.
• Primary data is collected by administering a questionnaire and interview to survey the perception of
young adults.
• Secondary data have been collected by thorough review of articles, reports, census data, and
government reports.
• Information related to the types and purpose of participatory programs and services offered by the
museum was gathered from the museum visit, observation and website
