INTRODUCTION
• A wheelchair is a chair incorporated  with wheels, used when
walking is difficult or impossible due to  illness, injury, or
disability.
• Wheelchairs come in a variety of designs to meet the specific
needs of the users.
• They may include specialized seating adaption and may be
specific to particular activities, as seen with sports
wheelchairs.
• The most widely recognized distinction is between powered
wheelchairs ("power chairs"), where propulsion is provided by
batteries and electric motors, and manually propelled
wheelchairs, where the propulsive force is provided either by
the wheelchair user pushing the wheelchair by hand ("self-
propelled"), or by an attendant pushing from the rear end.
LITERATURE SURVEY

called an invalid’s chair) was made for phillip of spain by an
unknown inventor.
• In 1655,Stephen Farfler, a watchmaker, built a self-propelling
chair on a three wheel chassis.
•In1783,John Dawson of Bath England,invented a wheelchair
named after the town of bath.
•Dawson designed a chair with two large wheels outsold all
other wheelchair throughout the early part of the 19th century.
•Electric wheel chair was invented by George Klein in 1953,who
worked for the national research council of Canada, to assist
injured veterans after world war II.
OBJECTIVE
• The main objective is to design the
mechanism involving lifting system of
seat and accommodating sleeping
mobility.
