INDUSTRIALIZATION

AND ENVIROMENTAL
CONCERNS
Presented by Huda Jahanzeb, Rameen Azhar and
Zahra Fatima
WHAT IS INDUSTRIALIZATION?
● Industrialization is the process of manufacturing consumer goods
and capital goods in order to provide services to both individuals
and businesses
●  Individual manual labor is often replaced by mechanized mass
production, and craftsmen are replaced by assembly lines.
● Examples of industrialization include manufacturing, mining,
transportation, and retailing.
ENVIROMENTAL CONCERNS OF
INDUSTRIALIZATION
Although new methods and machinery have simplified work and increased output, industrialization has
introduced many problems for the environment.
● Air pollution - The release of carbon dioxide and burning of fossil fuels from manufacturing has a
great negative impact on the atmosphere as well raising the risk of respiratory disorders in
individuals
● Water pollution - Untreated sewage, run off from factories and waste in oceans due to mass
consumption has brought a huge threat to aquatic life and the ecosystem. The toxic chemicals
released by factories also contaminates sub-soil water.
● land pollution - Huge amounts of untreated solid waste that are dumped in different parts of
industrial cities increase land pollution and bring further health dangers due to the toxic fumes
produced by the burning of wastes
● Noise pollution - the turning and churning of machinery used in industries has a serious affect on the
noise pollution which could result in deafness in people.
HOW TO CONTROL INDUSTRIAL POLLUTION
●Source controlling - Efficient training of employees and development of better
technology for disposal of waste can help control industrial pollution at the source.
●Industry Site Selection - Consideration of location of the sites and the impact on the
surrounding environment can help reduce the harmful consequences of industrialization
●Proper Treatment of Industrial Waste - By developing treatment facilities for handling
industrial waste can reduce the pollution brought by untreated toxic waste.
●Afforestation - Planting more trees and plants can help give wildlife back their homes, as
well as purify the air with enough oxygen which would reduce atmospheric pollution.
●Stricter Laws and Enforcement - Laws to check industrial pollution should be strictly
enforced.
CONCLUSION
In spite of the benefits that industrialization brings, it also brings major
negative impacts on the environment. However a number of steps could
be taken to reduce the effects industrialization has on the environment
and make it more sustainable and non polluting while taking advantage
of the comforts.
