WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WE
ARE SOLVING
Firefighters
To needways
find better tactileto
experiences to be prepared
help firefighters train for
emergency situations, however; USS Miami
USS Enterprise
gas fired props do not depict the real-world variables
of combustibles, ventilation and fire propagation;

building, managing fixed or transportable live fire

container props is expensive resulting in high costs
and reduced training frequencies;
live fire simulations are not environmentally
friendly and will be increasingly challenging to
deliver as
we move to a net zero world
NFPA Research - 91 people lost their lives on US training grounds between 2009 and USS Bonhomme Richard
2019

3. assumes 3x 18kg pallets 500 sessions annually
4. excludes cost of water cost, cost of fuel and gas emissions, cost of foam,
decontamination clean-up costs and equipment depreciation

Why we Believe
Immersive is the
Future of Learning

Train more | Learn more | Be prepared

WHAT IS IMMERSIVE LEARNING
Learning is experience,
everything else is just information (Einstein)
Immersive learning is a technique that makes use of an
artificial or simulated environment through which
the learners can become completely immersed in
the learning process.

Immersive learning allows learners to control the outcomes by

connecting them with real experiences, but in a safer
environment.

How else can we ‘economically’ recreate

real world hazards into safe learning
environments?

WHAT LESSONS HAVE WE LEARNED
FROM PILOT TRAINING Maj. Gen. Craig Wills, 19th Air Force commander within
1929 – First Flight Simulator Air Education and Training Command, said that as the
service collects learning record feedback from units
accepting graduates from the Pilot Training Next
program, which uses VR/AR technology to train pilots on
fundamental aviation skills, students who fly the F-22
Raptor and F-35 Joint Strike Fighters are leading the
field.

HOW IS IMMERSIVE LEARNING
BEING ADOPTED
On 26 March 2021, the United States Army
awarded Microsoft a fixed price production
agreement to manufacture the Integrated Visual
Augmentation System (IVAS). This award
transitions IVAS to production and rapid fielding
to deliver next-generation night vision and
situational awareness capabilities to the Close
Combat Force (CCF) at the speed of relevance

The IVAS aggregates multiple technologies

into an architecture that allows the Soldier to
Fight, Rehearse, and Train using a single US Army Press Release, 31 March 2021,
platform.  announcing the award of a $20bn virtual
technology contract to Microsoft

HOW WE ARE INNOVATING LEARNER
RECORDS
In Q1 2022 we will introduce a proof of value platform that will demonstrate
 How a training organization can codify their curriculum in FLAIM simulations to deliver standardized training
events
 So, they can qualify that every training event is consistently delivered to a standard
 Which will enable the organisation to capture micro-level learner data to assess against standards to map overall
training progress
 Without the need for subjective paper-based training records

STATUS – WE HAVE SIGNED NDA AND LOI
The Proposed Collaboration “to establish Virtual Reality Firefighting
training solutions for the US Navy”
will comprise all the terms, arrangements, and other matters to govern and form part of the FLAIM and
Leidos collaboration on the research, design, implementation, delivery and marketing of pilot projects that
combine FLAIM’s virtual reality training solution with LEIDOS subject matter expertise for
US Navy and 3D digital asset provision of shipboard spaces.

STATUS – WHAT WE HAVE DISCUSSED
1. Preliminary size of the prize estimates, using single vessel class DDG-51:-
• Noting a single COTS FLAIM Trainer system sells at $48,000 plus $10,000 annual software licence
• Estimated value of 113x DDG-51 at 2 systems1 per vessel is circa $35m of HW and SW licence fees
• Extrapolated to total fleet suggests x3 multiple or ~$100m for 100% implementation to US CONUS,
OCONUS and NATO
• Excludes full services wrapper value ie. integrated software systems, ships models, customised builds etc
2. To proceed Leidos procures a single current FLAIM COTS to demonstrate proof of capability to USN
3. FLAIM provides in market technical resource to and support USN evaluation
4. Develop partnership approach to determine and develop
• Project scope to develop VR(AR) full USN training solution
• Pro-forma business case and partnership model
• Identify funding options
• Deliverables and KPI’s
• Governance framework
1
Assumes the minimum modelled number of FLAIM Training hours per vessel would be 1,760 and a five year total system life
