What is a Feature Article?
 It is a write –up that is based on the mysterious
ingredient in journalism that is called -HUMAN
INTEREST- . It appeals to us because we can
relate to it.

 “The jewel or gem of the newspaper”.

Can set a scene, describe a place or tell a
story. Grab the reader’s attention and
pull them into the story.
Description
Sets the scene for the story and brings
places and people in it to life. Prompts a
reader to create mental images in his or
her mind.
Anecdotes
Anecdotes are nothing more than very short
stories. But in features, they can incredibly
effective in illustrating key points or in bringing
people and incidents to life.
Quotes
Include only the most colorful and interesting
quotes. Everything should paraphrased.
Background Information
Have a solid information to back up the point
your feature is trying to make.

On Monday, aspiring vlogger Mary
Grace Escober took to Facebook to
share her happiness over having two
subscribers on YouTube, posting photos
of herself and the little food she
prepared to mark her milestone.

It builds up an interesting picture of the story.


“Happy two subscribers. Subscribe to
my channel,” wrote Mary Grace on
Facebook. Little did she know though
that her Facebook post quickly made
rounds online, with her subscribers
simultaneously growing in number.
As of writing, her Facebook has
garnered over 200, 000 reactions and
has been shared 80, 000 times after
netizens were delighted that she found
her “little achievement” worth
celebrating.

It brings the reader gently down.


Escober’s post on Facebook amazed
many netizens because it shows humility
and contentment. Many were inspired to
continue their passion in vlogging.

An adage once stated “Appreciating
small things is a great achievement.”
 Know your readers.
 Know your end goal.
 Explain why the reader should care.
 Anticipate questions.
 Write tightly.
 Enliven your feature with relevant anecdotes or episodes.
 Quotations or dialogues lend credibility and set mood or atmosphere in
the story.
 Make your ideas concrete by using imagery or figures of speech that the
readers will understand.
 Avoid highbrow language otherwise you will not communicating
effectively.
