What is a first impression?
• The first thought, or feeling of one, by another from seeing or meeting a
person

What are they largely determined by?


• Appearance

How can you make sure you are making a good first

• Make sure you’re dressing appropriate for the occasion.
Why is proper apparel so important in the
working world?
• If your appearance doesn't make a good
first impression, you could lose out on
someone who makes a better

Making The Right Purchase

What is comparison shopping? What
does this involve?
 Involves comparing the qualities and prices of the
same or similar items from different retailers before
buying.
 Involves fabric and construction of garment checks.
List 5 characteristics of high quality
garments
 Hems and lining are generous
 Linings and buttons are color coordinated
 Seams are straight with even secure stitches
 Fasteners are secure and located so no gapping or
pulling occurs.
 Plaid and stripes are matched at seams
When trying on a garment, name 5
ways to check the fit
 A person should be able to move around in a garment.
 Reaching and stretching should be possible without
straining the fabric.
 The garment should fit smoothly without wrinkling or
binding anywhere.
 The shoulder length should be comfortable and the
neckline fit smoothly

back to prevent pulling or stretching.
What are some Pros and Cons for
shopping
 Cons-some cannot be returned , have to dig through
piles of merchandise , crowds and confusion during
many sale events can make it harder , can get caught
up in a frenzy , & buy to many items.
 Pros- getting high value merchandise for a relatively
small amount of money , help people save money and
can bring them great satisfaction.

 Is it the correct style for my shape and
personality?
 Does it fit into my color schemes ?
 Is it my size?
 Is it the brand name I like?
 Does the quality meet my requirements?

 Advantages- available to charge goods and
services, buy now pay later , you can pay
portions of the total in monthly installments
with interest added.
 Disadvantages- there is a credit limit , signs
a charge slip , must have a good financial
standing or credit rating

What are some main considerations for
selecting apparel for infants ?
Comfort
• Tight or too many garments will make the
baby uncomfortable
Fabrics that are extremely fuzzy can irritate
the baby
Practicality
• Clothing should be designed for ease of
changing
Safety
• Sleepwear must be snug-fitting or flame
resistant.
• Lightweight zippers or gripper snaps are
the best
• Buttons or trims that cant be pulled off
are not practical and may be dangerous
How are children's clothing made for
self- help, safety and allow for growth?
Self-help
 Armholes should be large
 The backs and fronts of pants, shirts, and undershirts should be different or well
marked

 Flame resistant fabrics
 Designs of clothing should not cause the child to trip or catch on corners
 Avoid styles with long flowing skirts, tie belts, draw strings
 Avoid very full sleeves
 Trims should be firmly attached

Caring for clothes

• List 5 guidelines for the daily care of clothes
1. While dressing and undressing, be careful not to ruin clothes
by snagging, ripping, or stretching them
2. Put a towel around the shoulders, over clothing, to catch any
hairs, dandruff, or makeup after dressing.
3. When dressing or undressing, open fasteners fully so
garments will slip on or off easily.
4.After clothes are worn, put them with the dirty clothes, on a
hanger, or in a drawer.
5.Brush good suits, jackets, and [pants after each wearing.

1. Storage areas should provide adequate space for both
hanging and folded clothes.
2. Store similar items together, or at least near each other, if
they are worn together.
3. Closet space should be big enough to hold a season’s
wardrobe without crowding.

be used or put on.
5. All underwear items should be in the same or adjoining
drawers.

consumption and emissions. When clothes are
finished, hang them up immediately. Shake them and
pat out wrinkles. Shape and press the clothes, and air
them, before storing them in a closed space.
