PUBLIC ACCOUNTING

 Accountants and their staff who provide services on a fee


basis are said to be employed in public accounting.
 Public Accounting consist largely of auditing and tax
services.
 Public Accountants work in partnerships which provide
accounting services to individuals, businesses and
governments.
PRIVATE ACCOUNTING

 Accountants employed by a business firm or a not-for-


profit organization are said to be engaged in private
accounting.
 Private accountant also called executive or
administrative accountants, handle the financial records
of a business.

THREE CATEGORIES OF
ACCOUNTANTS
 Certified Public Accountant (CPA): CPAs work for the
public and provide auditing, accounting, litigation, and tax
advisory services. CPAs are licensed by the American
Institute of Certified Public Accountants To become a
CPA, you must have a Bachelor's degree in accounting and
pass a stringent exam.
 Certified Internal Auditor (CIA): CIAs performs
auditing functions for employers rather than the public.
 Certified Management Accountant (CMA): CMAs
usually work for employers, but may also work for the
public in a limited fashion.

BUSINESS/COMMERCIAL
SCHOOL

bookkeeping, and accounting.
Many of these schools offer classes at
night so that students who work
during the day can also study.
UNIVERSITY COURSES IN ACCOUNTING

 Bachelor Degree : A degree given by university, usually


upon completion of a four year course of study
 Master’s Degree : An advance degree given by a
university to a person who holds a bachelor’s degree,
usually after one or two years of additional study.
 Doctorate : The highest degree given by a university. It
required study beyond the master’s degree plus original
research in most cases.
