UNDERSTANDING THE

BODY IN MOTION

AFC Futsal Department Technical Director: ALI TARGHOLIZADE 1

Understanding the Body in
Motion

Basic Functional Anatomy

 Basic knowledge and understanding of anatomical
and mechanical concepts related to the sport

Objectives:
 To know the names of the major bones and muscles

 Able to define the terms joint, ligament, tendon and

cartilage
 To know the roles of the skeletal bones and muscles
2
Understanding the Body in
Motion
The Skeletal Framework:
o Skeletal System, Anatomy of Bones
o Types of Bones (Long, Short, Flat and
Irregular)
 Long Bones; e.g. Limbs and digits
(acts as lever)
 Short Bones; e.g. Tarsals and carpals
(cubic shapes)
 Flat Bones; e.g. ribs, scapula and
ilium – for muscle attachment and as
protection of cavities
3
Skeletal Framework

The human skeleton is made up of:

 206 bones

 600 types of muscles

4
The Human Muscles

Muscles functions – Mechanics of Movement

 Slow twitch – units are

involved in relatively low
tension, slow moving and
enduring exercises
 Fast twitch – units are
involved in fast, powerful
and relatively short term
types of activities

5
Muscles Involved in Futsal

The muscles at the front & back of the body

The names of the muscle groups that are most specific to Futsal are given

6
Types of Muscle Functions

Types of Muscle Contraction:

o Isometric – muscle contraction
involving no joint movement
o Isotonic – muscle contraction
involving limb or body movement

When player lands

on his feet the leg
muscles prevent
player from falling

7
The Human Muscles

Muscle Groups and Movement at the Joint:

 Flexor – Flexion
- bending at joint so that the
angle between bones is
decreased

 Extensor – Extension
- movement by which the angle
between parts at joint is
increased

8
The Joints
o Inter-relationship among bones, joints and muscles
o The functions of ligaments, tendon and cartilage

9
Cardio-Respiratory System

Responsibility is to transport oxygen, food substrates

and hormones to the muscles and the removal of carbon
dioxide during metabolism

System consists of:

 LUNGS
 HEART
 BLOOD

10
Cardio-Respiratory System

What is Lactic Acid?

 By product of anaerobic energy system – glycogen
from within the muscle is converted into once its
energy has been used to operate the muscle

11
Cardio-Respiratory System

Lactic Acid is removed

from the body by:
 being converted to carbon
dioxide and therefore
exhaled
 liver, kidney through
excretion
 some goes into the heart
muscle to be used as fuel
after conversion
