INTRODUCTION
Tourism organizations exist to monitor
tourism, internationally, regionally and
local/national.
It develops policies and laws to facilitate
tourism activities.
ROLE OF TOURISM ORGANIZATIONS
Exist to monitor tourism, internationally, regionally and local/national
Develop policies and laws to facilitate tourism activities
Establishing educational training for industry or sector
Promotional activities for tourism
Devising codes and conducts for members
Limiting or controlling entry to industry or sector.

WORLD TOURISM ORGANIZATION
 A specialized agency of the united Nations and the leading international organization in the
field of tourism.
 The most widely recognized organization in tourism today.
 Serves as a global forum for tourism policy issues and a practical source of tourism know-
how.
 Plays a central and decisive role in promoting the development of responsible, sustainable
and universally accessible tourism, paying particular attention to the interests of developing
countries.
 Located in Madrid, Spain
WORLD TRAVEL & TOURISM COUNCIL (WTTC)

  The forum for business leaders in the Travel & Tourism industry.
WTTC works with governments, local leaders and WTTC’s Global
Members with a regional presence, to identify and eliminate barriers to
growth. WTTC undertakes extensive annual macro-economic research,
which assesses the current and projected impact of Travel & Tourism on
a total of 176 national economies around the world. It’s a private org.
 
INTERNATIONAL CIVIL AVIATION ORGANIZATION
(ICAO)
Responsible for regulation of air
navigation recommendations
regarding formalities such as
customs and immigration; located
in Montreal, Canada.
ORGANIZATION FOR ECONOMIC COOPERATION AND
DEVELOPMENT (OECD)
  The Organization provides a setting
where governments compare policy
experiences, seek answers to common
problems, identify good practice and
coordinate domestic and international
policies.
THE INTERNATIONAL ECOTOURISM SOCIETY (TIES)
  A non-profit organization/global network of ecotourism
professionals and travellers dedicated to promoting ecotourism;
founded in 1990; leads the development of ecotourism and the
efforts to make tourism a viable tool for conservation, protection of
bio-cultural diversity, and sustainable community development.
NATIONAL TOURISM ORGANIZATIONS (NTO)
Many countries have created National Tourism Organizations
(NTO’s) to take on the marketing and promotional aspects of
tourism. In most cases the NTO is a statutory board or an executive
agency meaning that it has some degree of autonomy from the
government in its budget and decision making powers. NTO act as
national bodies for tourism concerns, it governs and oversees the
country’s tourism drive.

TOURISM SECTORS
 The tourism industry has been divided into eight different
sectors or areas.
1.Accommodation
2.Adventure Tourism and Recreation
3.Attractions
4.Events and Conferences
5.Food and Beverage
6.Tourism Services
7.Transportation
8.Travel Trade
Accommodation is one of the largest and fastest
growing sectors in the tourism industry. It is also a concern
of every traveller, whether looking for a place to pitch a tent
or a luxury suite in a fancy resort. Booking accommodation,
dealing with the vast array of accommodation options, and
considering alternative lodging options are all issues that
travellers face.
Adventure Tourism and Recreation clients request active,
recreational experiences or travel adventures where they can learn
about nature and/or culture are driving the growth.
Two Categories:
Hard adventure - Involves some risk and involves some risk
and requires strenuous physical exertion on part of the
participant.
Soft adventure - Is less risky, less strenuous, and requires little
or no participation.
  Attractions is a place of interest where
tourists visit, typically for its inherent or
exhibited natural or cultural value, historical
significance, natural or built beauty, offering
leisure, adventure, amusement and medical
services for aging travellers.
Events and conferences contribute dollars to
communities. Not only do travellers spend money on the
event or conference itself, but 'spinoff dollars' are also
spent on everything from accommodation to souvenirs.

The food and beverage industry is
a $32 billion a year industry.
Encompasses all types of
establishments that supply food and
beverages for consumption.
Tourism Services made up of the organizations,
associations, government agencies and companies that
specialize in serving the needs of the tourism industry.
Several areas that make up this sector:

3. Retail
4. Research
Transportation defined as an industry that
provides for the movement, comfort and
enjoyment of people.

Rail Transport
Water Transport
Travel Trade supports the bookings and sales in the other
sectors. People that work in the travel trade make
reservations for accommodations, tours, transportation, food
and beverage and/or for attractions.
