What is ICT?

ICT refers to all communication

technologies, including the internet,
wireless networks, cell phones,
computers, software, middleware, video-
conferencing, social networking, and
other media applications and services.
Importance of ICT
ICT permeates all aspects of life, providing
newer, better, and quicker ways for people
to interact, network, seek help, gain access
to information, and learn.
ICT in Education
ICT helps teachers to interact with students. It helps them in
preparation their teaching, provide feedback. ICT also helps
teachers to access with institutions and Universities, NCERT,
NAAC NCTE and UGC etc. It also helps in effective use of ICT
software and hardware for teaching – learning process.

ICT enables the use of innovative educational resources and

the renewal of learning methods, establishing a more active
collaboration of students and the simultaneous acquisition of
technological knowledge. It is much easier for them to create
team projects, cooperate and learn from each other.
ICT in Business
ICT makes a business more efficient, effective It help businesses to keep up with
and promptly respond to customers' needs. competition, increase staff satisfaction,
ICT can assist business activities including increase operational efficiency, improve
design, manufacturing, R&D, distribution and communication with suppliers and
sales and feedback. customers, and enhance joint working in
collaborative venture.
ICT in Healthcare
ICT provides new and more
efficient ways of accessing,
communicating, and storing
information, ICTs can help bridge
the information divides that have
emerged in the health sector in
developing and new industrial
countries—between health
professionals and the communities
they serve and between the
producers of health.
ICT in Banking and Financing
ICT help banks improve the efficiency and effectiveness of
services offered to customers, and enhances business
processes, managerial decision making, and workgroup
collaborations, which strengthens their competitive positions in
rapidly changing and emerging economies.

ICT allows for the effective management of online services and

provides financial institutions with valuable information.
Information technology and communication services have
become available in online banking systems, providing online
banking services, e-banking services, and banking services to
Internet companies.
ICT in Science
ICT can provide access to a huge range
of resources that are of high quality and
relevant to scientific learning. In some
cases the resources fill gaps where
there are no good conventional
alternatives; in other cases they
complement existing resources.

Computer-assisted inquiry is the use of

ICT as an aid to collecting information
and data from various sources. For
example Microcomputer-Based Lab
(MBL) tools can be used in science
inquiry and nature as a source of
information. MBL can help in data
acquisition and data processing in
laboratory.
ICT in Government
ICT also affects governments by improving responsiveness,
increasing efficiency and enhancing governance practices.
Governments can encourage the diffusion of ICT through their
supply of on-line services and their own use of new
technologies.
