Vision Statement

 A vision statement is an organization’s road map, indicating both


what the organization wants to become and guiding transformational
initiatives by setting a defined direction for the organization’s
growth

 An aspirational description of what an organization would like to


achieve or accomplish in the mid-term or long-term future. It is
intended to serves as a clear guide for choosing current and future
courses of action.
Vision Statement

 A vision statement, no matter how big or small the organization,


should serve as a description of the organization’s overarching
aspirations," said Phil Shawe, CEO and cofounder of TransPerfect, a
translation services company. "It encompasses the big picture and
envisions where the company is heading long term."

 A one-sentence statement describing the clear and inspirational


long-term desired change resulting from an organization or
program’s work.

 National Multiple Sclerosis Society: A World Free of MS

 Amnesty International: A world in which every person enjoys all of


the human rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human
Rights and other international human rights instruments.

 Amazon: "Our vision is to be earth's most customer centric company;


to build a place where people can come to find and discover anything
they might want to buy online." (Quoted from Amazon.com) 
Vision Statement

 FBI: Ahead of the threat through leadership, agility, and


integration.

 CTOC example: To improve life by addressing the impact


of organized crime on society through action, integrity,
and inclusiveness.
Mission Statement

 A written declaration of an organization's core purpose and


focus that normally remains unchanged over time.
Properly crafted mission statements (1) serve as filters to
separate what is important from what is not, (2) clearly
state which markets will be served and how, and (3)
communicate a sense of intended direction to the entire
organization.
Mission Statement

 A mission is different from a vision in that the former is the


cause and the latter is the effect; a mission is something to
be accomplished whereas a vision is something to be
pursued for that accomplishment. Also called company
mission, corporate mission, or corporate purpose.

 The best mission statements are clear, concise, and useful


(informs, focuses, guides)

 Amnesty International: To undertake research and action focused on preventing


and ending grave abuses of these rights.

 National Multiple Sclerosis Society: We mobilize people and resources to drive


research for a cure and to address the challenges of everyone affected by MS.

 Google: “To organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible


and useful.”

 Ferrari: “To make unique sports cars that represent the finest in Italian design and
craftsmanship, both on the track and on the road.”

 FBI: To protect the American people and uphold the Constitution of the United
States.
