This document provides descriptions of different types of physical movements that can be performed for exercise including:
1. Directions of movement such as forward, backward, and diagonal.
2. Levels of movement including high, low, and medium.
3. Range of movement from small in one place to large covering a wide area.
4. Floor patterns like circles, squares, and straight lines made while moving.
It then describes qualities of movement including time, force, space, and imitation of nature, animals, characters, machines, and activities like seesaws and rowing.

HEALTH AND FITNESS 3 (1) • Is the line of movement taken which IO may be forward, backward, sideward, DI R EC T diagonal, upward, or a combination of N those mentioned. DIRECTION • Level is movement through space that (2) maybe done at a high, low, or medium LEVEL level. LEVEL • Refers to the area covered as the (3) body moves. It may be small as when RANGE the movement is done in one’s place; or large when movement covers a wide area as when getting away from one’s place. RANGE (4) • The path or design on floor that is made while moving in space is what is FLOOR termed as floor pattern. It may take a PAT T E R N form of a circle, square, straight line, or zigzag. FLOOR PATTERN (1) • Movement which is fast. TIME • Movement which is slow. QU A L I T IE S (2) • Soft light movement FORCE • Strong, heavy movement QU A L I T IE • Strong, jerky movement • Smooth, sustained movement S (3) • Movement up and down SPACE • Movement across, back and forth, or QU A L I T IE around • Movement which is low S • Movement which is high (1) NATURE IMITATIO • The Clouds – with very slow and light N steps, move around with both arms sometimes moving sideways R and L; sometimes moving in circle. Bend body slightly forward as the arms are swayed. (1) NATURE IMITATIO • The Swaying Trees – sway the head N and body with sideward movements accompanied by a rhythmical up-and- down movement of the arms. This may be vigorous activity. (2) ANIMAL IMITATIO • Birds – run lightly on the toes with N arms stretched at the sides. The arms may wave up and down. • Ducks – bend the knees deeply with the hips well down on the heels. Place the hands under the arms with the elbows pointing backwards to represent wings. Then hold the head up and keep the back straight. (3) CH A R A C T ER • Clowns – the clumsy clown capers IMI TA T I O along, turning somersaults, N cartwheels, and playing leap with other clowns. Everyone moves around in an informal grouping toward the same direction. (3) CH A R A C T ER • Dwarfs – with knees or trunk bent to IMI TA T I O feel small, take very tiny and light N running steps around, sometimes skipping, sometimes rolling on the grass as if playing with the other dwarfs. (4) C HA N I C ME AL • Airplane – bend the knees deeply and TA TI O N raise the arms sideward to represent IMI the wings. Move forward, gradually rising higher and higher, gliding into a smooth run. A humming sound may be made. (4) C HA N I C ME AL • The Walking Doll – the jointed doll TA TI O N walks with jerky movements. As the IMI spring begins to run down, it gradually walks slower until in the last measure of the music, it topples over on the floor. (5) A CT IV I TY IMITATIO • Seesaw – bend knees deeply and N keep back straight. Stand erect with arms outstretched and bend from side to side. • Rowing – sit on floor and go through the motion of rowing a boat. S E E YO U O N N E X T P R E S E N TAT I O N
