WHY WE CHOSE
THIS TOPIC AND
ARTIST

• We decided to choose music as our


topic because is the topic we were
most confortable with, but as we will
see afterwards, it slightly touches
other topics.
• We choose Avicii as the artist because
it is one of our favortite artists, and
we wanted to know more about him.
BASIC INFORMATION

• Tim Bergling, stage name Avicii, was born on the 8th of September 1989, in
Stocholm,Sweden, and tragically killed himself on the 20th on April 2018, in
Muscat, Oman. The reasoning for his suicide are not revealed, although it is
spectulated it was due to his problems with alcohol.
• Tim has 3 siblings, David Bergling, Linda Sterner, and actor Anton Körberg.
• Tim stated that his stage name meant "the deespest level of budist hell" and he
chose this because his real name was already in use while creating a MySpace
page.
• A documentary about him was released in 2017, called "Avicii: True Stories".
• Some of his most recognised songs include "Levels", "Without You" and "The
Nights".
• He, along with his now Ex-agent Ash Pournouri called "House for Hunger" in 2011.
• Some of his biggest insperations were Daft Punk, Basshunter, Eric Prydz, Swedish
House Mafia and Tiësto.
CAREER START

• Tim started mixing when he was 8 years old, but,at 16, and
inspired by his brother decided to start making music. He was
releasing small musics in 2007, when he signed a deal with
Dejfitts Plays. But by 2009, he was releasing music at a exciting
pace. Mostly remixes  like "Sound of Now", "Muja", "Ryu" and
"Even".
THE BOOM IN HIS CAREER 

• In 2010 he signed with Emi Music Publishment, one of the


biggest publishers in the world.
• In 2011 he launched one of if not the biggest songs, "Levels". It
reached various Top 10´s in Europe, but it went nuclear, with the
official video reaching 500 million views, lyric videos made by the
community probably reaching another 500 million, and yet
another 500 million on Spotify and more on various music apps. 
• In 2012 his collaboration with David Guetta "Sunshine" was
nominated for a Grammy for Best Dance Recording.
• In 2013 his first studio album came out "True".
THE PROBLEMS

• But on January 2012, Tim was hospitalized due to a acute pancreatis, mots likely
caused by excessive alcohol consuption, something common in DJs.
• Although he could handle the pain, he returned to the hospital bed again in 2014,
but this time he had undergo surgery to remove his appendix and his gallblader.
• Even with his problems, Avicii continued to create music even collabing
with Carlos Santana, Wyclef Jean and Alexandre Pires on the FIFA World Cup
Anthem "Dar um Jeito".
• During 2014 and 2015, Avicii released musics that would be part of his album
"Stories", such as "The Nights", one of his most famous musics due to his contract
with EA Sports, to be excusively on the soundtrack of FIFA 15.
• He also has another musics on EA games, like "Pure Grinding" in Need for Speed
2015.
• On the 29th of March 2016 Avicii announced that he would be retiring from live
concerts, citing health issues.
THE LAST PROJECTS

• In 2017, Rita Ora did a semi-acoustic version of


"Lonely Together", a music from his secon to las
album "Avīci (01)".
• The Album "Avīci (01)" came out in August 2017.
• In March 2018, one month before his death, Avicii
launched small teasers from the music that will
eventually be used in his posthumus album "Tim".
• In April 2019, a year after his death, it was
announced that the Posthumus album Tim was
gonna be released in June, with the main song
"SOS" launching in the 10th of April.
AWARDS

• Avicii won 1 AMA (American Music Award) in 2013,


for Favorite EDM Artist, and was nominated for 2
more in 2014 and 2019.
• He also won a Billboard Music Award and a Teen
Choice Award for his song "Wake Me Up", 2 Gaffa
Awards in 2013 and 2014, Best Innovator and Best
Song Grammies in 2012, Best Artist in 2014, and
Best Electro/Dance album and music in 2020 with
Tim and SOS respectively, 4 MTV EMA´S, 2 in 2013,
1 in 2018 and 1 in 2019. MTV VMA in 2018 for his
collaboration with Rita Ora in "Lonely Together"
and 2 WMA in 2014 for best EDM Artist and Best
Swedish Act.
