INTRODUCTION
Solid waste reduction is the best solution to
lessen waste, to reduce pollution, to save natural
resources, protect environment and save money.
Reducing waste is difficult endeavor and will
require dozens or even hundreds of small
projects as part of the process. Collectively,
these changes amount to a paradigm shift in how
C1NHS operates. Ultimately, the project is to
change our entire way of use and disposal of
materials in school.
INTRODUCTION
Cagsiay 1 National High School has been taking measures
that can be used to mitigate the effect of different environmental
issues that we are facing right now. Since, several of the most
commonly thrown away items on campus are disposable plastic
water bottles and other single-use plastics, the school tries to
reduce it with reusable and locally sourced materials and
products.
INTRODUCTION
The school creates a project that
involves biodegradable, indigenous and
reusable materials, particularly mugs
made from bamboo plant. Students and
faculty can use reusable mugs made of
bamboo instead of plastic products. These
will serve as substitute for plastic
bottles/paper cups.
INTRODUCTION
The project does not only reduce plastic
waste but also promote healthy, fresh and local
products and avoiding pre-packaged food
products made of plastics.
In this way we can lessen the amount of
solid waste in the school and promote a
healthy plastic-free environment for a
sustainable living conditions.
OBJECTIVES
Strengthen and raise the level of environmental
awareness among the students, teachers and
community.

Promote solid waste reduction in C1NHS by

producing biodegradable, indigenous and
reusable materials.

Recognize the importance of Solid Waste

Reduction by promoting a plastic-free culture
as a key to reducing environmental impacts.
PARTICIPANTS
 750 Students of Cagsiay 1 National High School
 29 Teachers of Cagsiay 1 National High School
 1 Principal of Cagsiay 1 National High School
 Quezon Power (Phils.) Ltd. Co.
 Barangay Cagsiay 1 Officials and the
community
C1NHS Parents and Teachers Association
EXPECTED OUTPUT
The main goal of the project is to
• Reduce or even stop the use of plastics in the school and also to the
community of Barangay Cagsiay 1
• Eliminate and avoid products that are made of plastics or products that
are pre-packaged on a plastic material.
• Produce biodegradable, indigenous and reusable materials such
as mugs and cups made of bamboo plants. These products will be used
in the school and soon by the community as a substitute for plastic
wares. The project does not only reduce plastic waste but also
• Promote healthy, fresh and local products and avoiding pre-
packaged food products made of plastics. The project helps
• Strengthen and raise the level of awareness towards a sustainable
environment among the students, teachers, and community.

Advocacy murals. All the pre-packaged items in the
canteen will be replaced by fresh, healthy and local
products. Thus, promoting a Plastic-Free Culture
throughout the community. Although the project will be
needing a lot of support to become fully operational.
THE ZERO WASTE CANTEEN
PRODUCTION SITE OF THE BAMBOO PRODUCTS
The production of bamboo mugs/cups serves as a
substitute to plastic bottles and paper cups. Each
student is granted with a bamboo cup, personalized
with their names. Also, every student will take part in
the production process of the bamboo materials
during their homeroom. The help of the parents and
other stakeholders are also expected for the
continuous operation of the project.
Process followed to develop this proposal:
• Brainstorming and reviewing portions of this
proposal
• Identifying the type of bamboo to be used
• Taiwanak/Kawayan-killing/Bambusa vulgaris
• Location mapping
• Propagating bamboo via culm or branch cuttings
