At the end of this chapter, the students should be able to:
Distinguish the concepts underlying database systems and the typical four-step
process used for designing them.
Review the Entity-relationship model.
Understand the physical design considerations for databases.
Learn briefly what is normalization.
Describe two different languages for manipulating relational databases, namely,
the relational algebra and SQL.
Identify several issues related to physical database design.
