• also known as Cordillera Region


• Regional center: BAGUIO CITY also known as “summer
capital of the Philippines”
• CAR is one of the least populous region in the Philippines
SHORT BACKGROUND OF REGION
CAR
• Comprises six (6) provinces: ABRA, APAYAO, BENGUET, IFUGAO,
KALINGA, and MOUNTAIN PROVINCE
• Officially created on July 15, 1987 through executive order No. 220
issued by Pres. Corazon Aquino
• Located at North-central part of Luzon
• Dubbed as “watershed cradle of north Luzon” as it host nine (9)
major rivers that provide continuous water for invitation
• Majority of the population of this region is engage in FARMING
and SMALL-SCALE PRODUCTION
• Also rich in Ancient cultures
• It is the home of indigenous tribe called IGOROTS
• Also known as the PRIME TOURISTSPOT DESTINATION IN
PHILIPPINES
CAR ALSO HAS A VARIOUS
FESTIVALS:
• Panagbenga or Baguio flower festival celebrated every February
• Ulilam Festival in Kalinga
• Lang-ay Festival in Mountain Province
• Banaue Imbayah Festival and
• Tabuk Matagoan Festival

BRIEF HISTORY OF REGION CAR
• On July 15, 1987, President Corazon Aquino issued Executive
Order 220 which created the Cordillera Administrative Region.
The provinces of Abra, Benguet and Mountain Province (of the
Ilocos Region), and Ifugao and Kalinga-Apayao (of the Cagayan
Valley) were annexed as part of the newly created region.
• The word “cordillera” is a Spanish word which means
“mountain chain” and is derived from the Spanish word
“cordilla” meaning “string" or "rope", first used in 1704 as a
reference to the mountainous region.

1. BATAD, BANAUE RICE TERRACES

Tourist attraction in Banaue. The Banaue


Rice Terraces are terraces that were
carved into the mountains of Banaue,
Ifugao, in the Philippines, by the ancestors
of the indigenous people. The terraces are
occasionally called the "Eighth Wonder of
the World". It is commonly thought that
the terraces were built with minimal
equipment, largely by hand.
2. BURNHAM PARK

Burnham Park, officially known as the


Burnham Park Reservation, is a historic
urban park located in downtown
Baguio, Philippines. It was designed by
eponymous American architect and
Baguio city planner, Daniel Burnham.
3. MOUNT PULAG
Mount Pulag is Luzon's highest peak
at 2,928 metres above sea level, third-
highest mountain in the Philippines,
and the 26th-highest peak of an island
on Earth. It is second-most prominent
mountain in the Philippines, it is a
dormant volcano.
4.MINES VIEW OBSERVATION DECK

Tourist attraction in Baguio. Mines View Park is


an overlook park on the northeastern outskirts
of Baguio in the Philippines. It is five kilometers
away from the Heart of Baguio, passing
through the Botanical Garden, the Mansion
House, Wright Park, and the Pacdal Circle.
5. BENCAB MUSEUM
Museum in Tuba, Benguet. Artworks by
BenCab & other noted Filipino artists, plus
indigenous northern highlands
exhibits.Personal museum which houses the
collection of Ben 'BenCab' Cabrera, Philippine
National Artist for Visual Arts. BenCab's
collection of Philippine contemporary art and
ethnography. The Museum is set in the midst
of an organic farm with natural water
features, highlighting indigenous architecture
of the Ifugao, Kalinga, and Bontoc.
6. ECHO VALLEY
Ecological park in Sagada.Natural
area with lush greenery, trails,
caverns & Sagada's famous
hanging coffins. Echo valley is the
valley in which you need to hike
through to get to the most famous
of the sagada hanging coffins.
7. PANAGBENGA PARK
Park in Baguio. This family-
friendly outdoor space has trees,
flowers & stone sculptures, plus
a butterfly preserve. A small park
in Baguio City which features the
indigenous plants of the
northern Luzon.
8. BONTOC MUSEUM
Museum in Bontoc, Mountain
Province. Bontoc Museum was
founded by a Belgian nun to
preserve the history and heritage of
the indigenous peoples of the
Cordillera region. There you can see
traditional houses of the people of
the Mountain Province, especially
the Bontocs.
9. OUR LADY OF ATONEMENT
CATHEDRAL
Cathedral in Baguio. Our Lady of the
Atonement Cathedral, better known as
Baguio Cathedral, is a Roman Catholic
cathedral located at Cathedral Loop
adjacent to Session Road in Baguio, the
Philippines, and is the see of the
Roman Catholic Diocese of Baguio. The
majestic church located on top of a hill
in the heart of the city.
10. IGOROT PARK
Igorot Park, Park in Baguio. The
Igorot Park is a smaller park
within Burnham Park which is a
place where locals often play
chess as early as the 1980s. The
Garden is dominated by a
Statue.
