• Human resources management (HRM) is the process of employing people, training them,
compensating them, developing policies relating to them, and developing strategies to retain
them. (University of Minnesota, 2016)
• HRM’s activities are categorized into 5 main categories and here are the short model:

Organization
• This category of activities includes the design, development and the
job and role designs(Armstrong, 2009)
More undersanding in employees’ roles
Job enrichment, personal, professional growth (Sumbul, 2019)

Resourcing
• This function includes human resource planning,
recruitment & selection, talent management
(Armstrong, 2009)
Ensure company future with talent recruited
through the process of recruitment & selection
Retaining them for long-term development of the
company
Plan the need for employees in short and long-
term future to avoid loss (Sumbul, 2019)

Learning and development (human
reources development-HRD)
This category including organization-wide and individual level learning, management development,
performance management (Armstrong, 2009)
Learn new skills, knowledge and discover their new abilities ->less mistake in the process of working,
better efficiency
The acquisition will stay in the company for long time, even if, the the employees leave company
Measure the performance of those new abilities -> decide whether the learning of that specific skill
should be continue in the future (Sumbul, 2019)

Reward management
• This function includes all financial and non- financial recognition that is extended to employees
in return for their performance, potential, and commitment to the organization and its objectives.
(Armstrong, 2009)
• Keep up their motivation for future development
Attract lots of candiates for the reputation of good employees benefits
Employees staying in the company for a long time as they get to increase their salary after
time.

• Armstrong (2009) listed industial relations, employee voice, and communication in this
function.
• Included in company’s decision and tense to devote for the company
Make the employee more comfortable and bond with each other through Trade Union ->
harmony at working space (Sumbul, 2019)

HRM in my
company

Mrs.Trang, deputy of HR department claimed
that the unique feature of the department is that
the company is ready to facilitate and support
employees to study and improve their
qualifications to meet the requirements. The
other thing is job security and benefits of the
company.

• Ms. Hanh ( employee of finance department)
said that she have been given the opportunity to
get her master degree while working at the
company. That means she would have less
workload and more flexible working schedule.
• The company have real-time support.
• Phone bills, parking bills are covered by the
company.
• 100% of employees is vaccinated
• The company is funded by government and
almost monopoly on Vietnam electricity market.
